Falling in love with the best man wasn’t on the program.

Willa is happy to be the maid of honor in her dad’s upcoming wedding to uber-celeb Mia McCain. Not as happy about the best man being her soon-to-be stepbrother, the infuriating—and infuriatingly gorgeous—Finn McCain. Every time their paths cross, the attraction simmering between them grows a little harder to ignore. Willa knows all about guys like Finn—they only want what they can’t have. What’s between them isn’t real.

Finn has never felt anything more real than what’s developing between him and Willa. Sure, her dad warned him to steer clear, but it’s not just about forbidden temptation. He’s determined to prove to Willa he’s not going anywhere—and that happily-ever-after will always be worth the risk.

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains a wedding so crazy it’ll make you laugh, a stepbrother so hot he’ll make you swoon, and a heroine so real she’ll make you cry.

Also in this series: How Willa Got Her Groove Back, Crazy, Stupid, Fauxmance

YA ReviewMy ThoughtsWeddings, Crushes, and Other Dramas is the sixth book in the Creative HeArts series, and the second, and final :(,  book in the Finn and Willa trilogy by Emily McKay. I have still not read the fourth or fifth book in the series,  but I have read books 1-3. I have said it before and I will say it again, I freakin love the way this series is done. Let me try and break it down for you, because it can be kind of confusing. The Creative HeArts series is all set at the same performing arts high school in Texas. There will be somewhere between 8-11 books in the series, and it will center around 4 different couples (at this time anyway). Each of the couples will get their own duology or trilogy, and each trilogy is written by a different author. But the books in the overall Creative HeArts series will rotate through each one of the three couples, so no two sequential books will be about the same two main characters.  Get it? I promise it is less confusing once you start reading the books. I really love that they are all set in the same universe and I love that none of their stories are neatly wrapped up at the end of book one. (If you are still confused, check out the goodreads series page HERE which does a good job at explaining it.)

Finn and Willa are my favorite couple in the series so far. I adored How Willa Got Her Groove Back, which was the first book in the Willa and Finn trilogy and I couldn’t wait to read Weddings, Crushes, and Other Dramas. It picks up right where How Willa Got Her Groove Back left off, so you do need to read that one first. (You don’t necessarily have to read all the other books in the series, but reading them all helps you get a better idea of the world. I need to go back and read books 4 and 5 ASAP. I has the best of intentions to read them in order, but when I saw the second Willa and Finn book, I got a little over excited and jumped the gum. Whoops.)

Weddings, Crushes, and Other Dramas was just as cute and angsty as I  was hoping it would be. I loved watching Finn and Willa struggle and deny their feelings for one another, and try and play the part of a good family as they helped their parents get read for their wedding. The only things I didn’t like about this book were that Willa was still dating that jerk face and Finn had to witness it for the whole story. And I was also a little sad that the romance between my beloved Willa and Finn took so long to actually come into fruition. There was a how lot of resisting the whole story, which don’t get me wrong, I loved, but I wanted to see more of the romance because I love these two together. I was totally bummed when I found out this would be their last story. It was originally going to be a trilogy for them, but their story has been neatly wrapped up and  while I enjoyed the ending, I want more!

Bottom line: Weddings, Crushes, and Other Dramas is a great book for lovers of young adult contemporaries. And if you have not checked out the Creative HeArts series yet, I think you should. Fans of young adult contemporaries will really dig its unique concept and structure. I have been really loving it, and I hope to see more series like it in the future.

blue4.5

P.S. when I wrote my other reviews for the books in the series, there were only going to be 9 books and three couples, but they added another couple trilogy in the mix, and changed some or all of the trilogies to duologies. So now I am just plain confused on how long the series will be.  But the series format remains the same, just with another couple in the rotation.

About Emily McKay

Emily McKay is a life-long fan of books, pop-culture and anything geeky. She has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and baking cookies. When she’s not kicking-ass and scooping cookie dough, she’s watching videos from Screen Junkies (her favorite Youtube channel) or Pemberly Digital or Classic Alice. Okay, she has a Youtube problem! She’s seeking help. Really. Though, she may also have a slight problem with procrastination.

When the internet is down and there are no chocolate chips in the house, she does write books – everything from Harlequin romance novels to post-apocalyptic YA. Though her interests may appear broad, the common denominators are swoony heroes and snarky humor.

I finished this the other day, and it was all about Finn for me. Boy was all in! and I was so, so, grateful for the epilogue.

The forbidden romance tope is my favorite so I know I’ll love reading this book.
