Set in a kingdom where danger lurks beneath the sea, mermaids seek vengeance with song, and magic is a choice, Adalyn Grace’s All the Stars and Teeth is a thrilling fantasy for fans of Stephanie Garber’s Caraval and Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series.

She will reign.

As princess of the island kingdom Visidia, Amora Montara has spent her entire life training to be High Animancer—the master of souls. The rest of the realm can choose their magic, but for Amora, it’s never been a choice. To secure her place as heir to the throne, she must prove her mastery of the monarchy’s dangerous soul magic.

When her demonstration goes awry, Amora is forced to flee. She strikes a deal with Bastian, a mysterious pirate: he’ll help her prove she’s fit to rule, if she’ll help him reclaim his stolen magic.

But sailing the kingdom holds more wonder—and more peril—than Amora anticipated. A destructive new magic is on the rise, and if Amora is to conquer it, she’ll need to face legendary monsters, cross paths with vengeful mermaids, and deal with a stow-away she never expected… or risk the fate of Visidia and lose the crown forever.

I am the right choice. The only choice. And I will protect my kingdom.

YA Review My Thoughts

All the Stars and Teeth is the first book in the young adult fantasy series, called All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace. This is Adalyn Grace’s debut novel, and I really, really loved it! I am already excited for the next novel in the series. Fans of fantasy novels are going to want to add this book on to their TBR’s right now. I loved the strong main character, and I am always here for a rakishly handsome pirate. Not to mention a really fascinating world, and great writing. All the Stars and Teeth featured all of that, wrapped up in a story that sucked me in almost immediately and kept a rapt hold on my attention until the very end! I do not know how I am going to be able to wait until the second book.

In All The Stars and Teeth we meet our main character Amora, who is going to be become heir to her families kingdom,Visidia. In order to officially become the heir, Amora had to do a showcase of her soul magic. When it goes awry Amora is forced to flee, which is where our adventure really begins. All the Stars and Teeth is an epic tale where Amora has to try and save her kingdom. I loved Amora. She is fierce and determined, and she is exactly the kind of character I love reading about. She felt like a real friend of mine. And then there is Bastian, the mysterious pirate that Amora runs into. They strike a bargain, and in doing so they both completely wormed their way into my heart. I loved Bastian so, so much. He was the perfect amount of surly and swoony. I really loved the interactions of not only Amora with Bastian (oh the tension! and the Banter!) but I also loved Bastian with Ferrick, a stowaway on their ship. All of the characters stole my heart.

My favorite part of the story was the adventure that Amora sets out on, because the story really unfolded in surprising ways. I loved learning about the magic structure of the world.  Most of the royals practice soul magic, but there are other kinds. And Amora learns about a new kind of magic out on her journey. There are six kinds of magic in the world (seven with the new magic that Amora finds on her journey.) Learning about each of the magic types, was so much fun. Some of the magic uses blood or bones…or maybe even…teeth? It was an interesting magic structure for sure.

Adalyn Grace does a fantastic job of make her characters, and their emotions jump off he page. I felt like I was right there beside everyone on the adventure with them.  All the Stars and Teeth felt like an immersive reading experience for me. One that I thoroughly loved from start to finish. If you are a fan of fantasy that feature great characters, a great romance, and a great magic system with excellent world building, then you need to read All the Stars and Teeth. This is a book you do not want to miss.
