Series: The Blooming Goddess Trilogy #2

Synopsis:

Sophie Bloom’s junior year has been a bit of a train wreck. After the world’s greatest kiss re-awakened Sophie’s true identity as Persephone (Goddess of Spring and Savior of Humanity), she fought her dragon-lady guidance counselor to the death, navigated mean girl Bethany’s bitchy troublemaking, and dealt with the betrayal of her backstabbing ex, Kai (sexy Prince of Darkness). You’d think a girl could catch a break.

Yeah, right.

With Zeus stepping things up, it’s vital that Sophie retrieve Persephone’s memories and discover the location of the ritual to stop Zeus and Hades. So when Aphrodite strikes a deal that can unlock Sophie’s pre-mortal past, what choice does the teen goddess have but to accept?

The mission: stop media mogul Hermes from turning Bethany into a global mega-celebrity. The catch? Aphrodite partners Sophie and Kai to work together … and treat this suicide mission as a date. Which could work out for Sophie’s plan to force Kai to admit his feelings for her–if she doesn’t kill him first.

Add to that the fact that BFF Theo’s love life and other BFF Hannah’s actual life are in Sophie’s hands, and suddenly being a teenager—even a godlike one—seems a bit like … well, hell. Whatever happened to dinner and a movie?

The YA romantic comedy/Greek mythology fireworks continue to fly in My Date From Hell. Love meets comedy with a whole lot of sass in book two of this teen fantasy romance series. Breaking up is easy; dating is deadly.

My Thoughts

I really liked My Ex From Hell, the first book in the trilogy. I thought it was a unique twist on greek mythology while still remaining true to the stories and gods and goddesses, and My Date From Hell raised the bar even more! I totally loved the second book in the Blooming Goddess Trilogy. My Date from Hell picks up right after My Ex from Hell left off and it starts off with a bang. Sophie is hanging out with Zeus and lets just say it wasn’t a social call. In fact, that was one of the things that I appreciated most about the story. So many mythology books have Hades and Zeus being all lovey dovey. Powerful, but nice, but in reality the head honchos of the gods have always traditionally been depicted as being aloof from humanity. They don’t care for them one bit, except as their playthings. I thought Tellulah Darling did a great job with her characterizations Zeus and Hades.

Sophie is just as much of a spitfire in this book as she was in the first one. I loved that she just would not back down; from anyone or anything. Her spunk and attitude is what made me fall in love with her and Im pretty sure it’s what Kai ended up liking the most about her too. Speaking of Kai, I was all set to hate on him for what he did at the end of the last book, but then right at the start of this story he has to go being all adorable and wounded and has a good reason for his actions and all that annoying stuff that made me go mushy and like him even more! I loved watching Kai and Sophie in this book. They are on an extended quest, just the way I like it in my mythology books, and basically it was chocked full of awesome Kai and Sophie moments that kept me smiling and laughing. I really enjoyed that throughout the story random things would trigger Sophie’s Persephone memories. It was like getting tidbits into her past life, and slowly she was piecing things together.

Theo and Hannah and the whole old gang are in My Date from Hell, and they were just as great as before. but what’s even better is we get to meet a whole bunch of new gods and goddesses along their journey. And they were hilarious! The dialogue in My Date From Hell was witty and snappy and extremely enjoyable. I liked the brisk pace of the story and I liked how funny the characters were. She reminds me of Meg Cabot, with all of her wise cracks and pop culture references. (and anyone that knows me, knows that is a HUGE comparison. I LOVE Meg Cabot!) The Blooming Goddess trilogy is so incredible! I am completely loving it. The ending of My Date from Hell was a humdinger too! I am so sad that I have to wait until 2014 for the next book. I hope it comes out in January. haha.
