Also in this series: The Last Fallen StarFor Riley Oh, life as the Godrealm’s last fallen star is not all it’s cracked up to be. Her new divine heritage doesn’t even come with cool magical powers; half of her friends and family (including her parents) can’t remember her; and to top it all off, the entire Gom clan is mad at her for killing the Cave Bear Goddess and stripping away their healing abilities.
But when their anger boils over and a group of witches curse Riley’s home, she knows it’s up to her to restore magic back to her clan – even if it means sneaking into the Spiritrealm.
Luckily, Riley has some backup. Along with her sister, Hattie, Riley meets Dahl, a heaven-born boy with shockingly white hair and a fondness for toilets who might not be telling the whole truth about who he is. Together they’ll fight vicious monsters, discover dark underwater worlds, and race to save the land of the dead from a fate that no one could have foreseen.
And this time, Riley won’t let anything get in her way. Because she can’t shake the feeling that something terrible is coming their way – and the gifted community is going to need all the powers they can get.
*Please Note: This is the second book in a series that should be read in order. There may be spoilers for book one (though I try to keep those to a minimum). If you are new to the series, you can check out my review of book one- The Last Fallen Star- HERE*
The Last Fallen Moon is the second book in the middle grade fantasy series, called Gifted Clans by Graci Kim. The Gifted Clans series is based on Korean Mythology and I really enjoyed the first book, The Last Fallen Star, so I was super excited to dive into book two. I am happy to report that The Last Fallen Moon did not disappoint. I loved this sequel novel- the pacing was wonderful, the story flowed seamlessly from the first book to the second and it was so great to meet up with Riley again. I really enjoyed The Last Fallen Moon and I am so pumped to continue on with the Gifted Clans series.
The Last Fallen Moon picks up after the events of book one- with our heroine Riley saving the world! You would think that would earn her some favor, but instead the Gom clan is mad at her! View Spoiler » I was so anxious to see what was going to happen with Hattie in this book because I so love the bond that her and Riley share. To try and make things right, Riley heads to the spirit realm to restore what was lost to the Gom clan. (see the spoiler block for more info) Riley is a character that is easy to love and easy to root for. She is fierce, caring, independent but also able to learn from her mistakes. I am loving her character growth.
This adventure is chocked full of heart, trials, road blocks, character growth and more than a few laughs along the way. I loved it! I am really enjoying learning more about Korean mythology and I am hoping to find even more fantasy books based on Korean myths because they are fascinating. The Last Fallen Moon has all of the fun, charm and magical adventures that I love in Rick Riordan’s stories as well as all of the books in his imprint. If you are a fan of magic, mythology and quest types stories, The Gifted Clams series is a great story for you to check out. I can’t wait to continue on with this series.
