{ARC Review+Giveaway} The Devil’s Thief by @LisaMaxwellYA #devilsthief

*Note: this is the second book in a series that should be read in order. If you are new to this series,  check out my review on the first novel- The Last Magician HERE The Devil’s Thief is the second novel in the Last Magician series by Lisa Maxwell. I loved the first book in this series so much. I thought the Last Magician was utterly fantastic! And I have to say that the sequel, The Devil’s Thief completely lived up to my expectations after the first. I might have even liked more than the first book! In case you are new to the series, The Last Magician is a young adult fantasy novel by author Lisa Maxwell. It is the story of Esta, who is a Mageus with the ability to time travel. Esta uses this time traveling ability to steal magical artifacts. The Devil’s Thief gave me all of the characters that I loved from the first novel, and we get to meet some more as well. I really… Read more »

{Review} The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell #devilsthief

Holy Cow, the Last Magician was utterly fantastic! The Last Magician is a young adult fantasy novel by author Lisa Maxwell. It is the story of Esta, who is a Mageus with the ability to time travel. Esta uses this time traveling ability to steal magical artifacts. This aspect of the story reminded me of the show warehouse 13, which many of you know I really love! There is a small dose of romance, but the real star of this book was the plot. It took me a good 3 chapters or so to get into it, but after that I was hooked. I loved all the detail and background information we get early on. It does take some time for all of the information to build, but once it does we are off on a fast paced, intense adventure with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. The last Magician was a real winner for me! One of my favorite things about… Read more »

{Review} Alex, Approximately by @Jenn_Benn ‏ett @SimonTeen @RivetedLit ‏

{Review} Alex, Approximately by @Jenn_Benn ‏ett @SimonTeen @RivetedLit ‏

Alex, Approximately is a young adult standalone romance by author Jenn Bennett. This book was so stinkin’ cute and amazing, I can’t stand it! In the best way of course. I expected to enjoy Alex, Approximately, but I didn’t expect to fall so completely head over heels in love with it like I did. This is one of my favorite reads of the year! I mean business when I say Alex, Approximately deserves every bit of these five stars. Alex, Approximately is the story of Bailey and  Alex. Bailey, or Mink, and Alex, met online where they instantly bonded over their love of classic movies. Bailey knows that Alex lives in the same town in California as her dad, but she gets gun shy when it comes to telling Alex that she has moved in with her dad. She is nervous about taking her online friendship offline. Bailey is trying to search Alex out with the bits of information she knows about him. At the same time she starts working… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Illusion by @MartinaABoone @simonteen @rivetedlit

Ahh, I can’t believe the Heirs of Watson Island Trilogy is done. I loved Illusion, it might be my favorite book out of all of them, and this was one heck of an ending. The hard part about this trilogy is that with each of the books it is getting harder and harder to write spoiler free reviews. Martina Boone has created such a detail rich world that is so woven is layers and layers of secrets and mysteries that it is almost impossible to say something about book 3 without giving something away. Needless to say, you need to read this series in order. So if you have not read Compulsion or Persuasion yet, stop reading this review right now and go start reading this series. You will love it! I can see this trilogy, appealing to so many different kinds of readers. It will appeal to fans of romance, mystery, as well as fans of creepy/dark books. It is labeled as a southern gothic. I can’t say that… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} LITTLE BLACK DRESSES, LITTLE WHITE LIES by @LauraStampler

{Review+Giveaway} LITTLE BLACK DRESSES, LITTLE WHITE LIES by @LauraStampler

LITTLE BLACK DRESSES, LITTLE WHITE LIES by Laura Stampler is a young adult chick lit book. Technically, it is a contemporary romance, however the whole thing had a very chick lit (ex: Shopaholic series, Devil wears Prada, etc.) feel to it, and I loved that about it. It made the whole thing feel like a fun young adventure. If you are looking for a girl about town, young adult novel that will have you smiling, LITTLE BLACK DRESSES, LITTLE WHITE LIES is the book for you. LITTLE BLACK DRESSES, LITTLE WHITE LIES is about Harper, a young lady who joins her aunt in New York City for a big time summer internship at a magazine. This aspect of the story reminded me a lot of the tv show, The Hills (and that spin off show that Whitney got when she moved to New York.) I think this book would be perfect for fans of those shows. Although I do have to say the girls are a lot less catty and awful… Read more »

{Release Day Review+Giveaway} How to Disappear by @AnnStampler @simonteen

{Release Day Review+Giveaway} How to Disappear by @AnnStampler @simonteen

How to Disappear is a fast paced, murder mystery novel long chase that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved this young adult book by Ann Redisch Stampler. It was really a riveting read, and please know that I don’t say that lightly. Normally I am much more critical on my mystery and suspense books, especially in the young adult age group. They are not a sub genre that I read very often, but How to Disappear is a really great mystery, suspense and even romance. I loved that How to Disappear is told in dual narrative from two teens on the run. One reluctantly chasing and one very earnestly running. I loved that neither one of the characters was completely black or completely white. Both of them were firmly in the shades of grey camp, which made watching their stories unfold and more twists and turns popping up, all the more interesting. I genuinely had no idea which way this was going to… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Come Back to Me by Mila Gray @MilaGrayBooks

{Review+Giveaway} Come Back to Me by Mila Gray @MilaGrayBooks

Come Back to Me is the first in a new adult contemporary romance series, called (you guessed it)-Come Back to Me by Mila Gray. Mila Gray is the pen name for Sarah Alderson’s new adult and adult books. I have read and really enjoyed some of Sarah’s other books and I have to say this author is immensely talented. I have read a side splitting-funny book (The Extraordinary Life of Lara Craft (not Croft)) as well as a mystery/thriller (The Sound). And now she brings us a heart wrenching love story in Come Back To Me. I love how talented and versatile both Mila and Sarah are. 😉 Even though all of her books are very very different, they are each so wonderfully well done. When I first found Come Back to Me, I read the summary and filed it away in my brain as a tear jerker, and to only read when I was in the right mindset. (Is that strange that I like to be prepared for potentially… Read more »

{Review} Killer Within by @SEGreenAuthor @simonteen #pulseit

{Review} Killer Within by @SEGreenAuthor @simonteen #pulseit

Note: This is the second book in the Killer Instinct series. If you are new to the series, you can find out more about book 1 and the series HERE Killer Within is the second book in the young adult Killer Instinct series by S.E. Green. I really liked the first book, and the second book is even crazier. There is so much going on in this book and I am going to try my best to describe this book without spoilers, but it picks up right after the events of the first story, which is a huge spoiler in and of itself. So if you are new to the series, you might be better checking out my review of book 1- Killer Instinct here. Killer Instinct totally took me by surprise with that insane ending. I did not see it coming at all. So in Killer Within Lane is struggling with the fallout of that last scene, as well as still trying to find her place not only in… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Killer Instinct by @SEGreenAuthor @simonteen #pulseit

Killer Instinct is the first book in the young adult series by the same name. And right off the bat, I have to say that I love the new covers for the series so, so much. I think they are much cooler looking than the old covers, and I think they fit with the story. Killer Instinct is about a girl that is fascinated with serial killers. And not only is she fascinated with them and with the way their mind works, she thinks that she may fit the profile as one. Lane, the main character, kind of reminded me of the show Dexter. And like Dexter, she has a conscience. She doesn’t want to just go around killing people just for the heck of it. She wants to be a vigilante serial killer of sorts. Killing or torturing only criminals who she thinks deserve it. She is seeking revenge for their victims. Which I thought was a cool concept in YA because it was different than so many books… Read more »
