Today I am hosting Karina Halle’s creepy, scary and just plain great series- Experiment in Terror. Check out what the series is all about and my interview with Karina. Don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the bottom of the post either!
Check out my review of book 1, Darkhouse HERE
1.  Into the Hallow (Book #6 in the Experiments in Terror series) is coming out next month. Describe Into the Hallow in a tweet (140 characters or less).
It’s Dead Sky Morning meets Lying Season, filled to the brim sex and angst in a rough and isolated setting.
2. Which book do you think is the scariest in the series and why?
That’s a tough one. They’ve all scared me…I think On Demon Wings might scare the most people since it’s psychological. I think personally, I was scared the most writing the asylum and Abby scenes in Lying Season.
3. What are some of your favorite scary books and movies?
Ooooh boy. Scary books AND movies? The Shining. Easily. Scary book, scary movie. The Sixth Sense and Signs. Any movie that has aliens. The Amytiville Horror book was terrifying and the movie wasn’t too bad. I was pleasantly freaked by Paranormal Activity. I’m freaked by tons of movies.
4. What kind of research did you do for the experiements in terror series?
It depends. If I’m setting a book somewhere I haven’t been, I do a lot of research on the place. I try and visit the places I write about but if I can’t, you can bet I have my nose buried in books and pictures of the place. I also  do some research on ghosts, ghost hunting, urban legends and the occult. Basically, I research everything I don’t know…and I love it. One of my favorite parts of writing is the research. I love to learn.
5. What were the best and the worst costumes you ever had for Halloween? (if you never dressed up what were the best/worst costumes you have seen on other people)

I dress every Halloween and I have to say my costumes are always the bomb – and I’m always a pop culture figure. I’ve been Dana Scully from The X-Files, Ellie Satler from Jurassic Park. The Bride from Kill Bill. Cinderella. Rogue from X-Men. Marilyn Monroe. Leela from Futurama (this was probably my best one). Selene from Underworld. Phoenix from X-Men. Peggy Bundy. Lindsay Funke from Arrested Development. Meg Griffin. This year I’m going as Perry Palomino heh heh.
6. I really don’t like looking at mirrors in the dark. I am always irrationally afraid that something is going to be behind me or in the mirror or something. What is something that completely freaks you out?
Um I don’t like that either! I hate it when my limb is hanging off the bed, feels like something will grab it. Or the whole feeling like something is behind the shower curtain. In general, aliens freak me out. Sleeping alone kind of freaks me out too lol, especially when I think about something being in the room with me and then I’m too afraid to open my eyes to check. I’m actually a big scaredy cat!
7. What is something we would be surprised to find out about you?
I used to write (screenplays) primarily in the romantic comedy genre.

Thank you so much for being here Karina! Romantic comedy screenplays! That is awesome, and I need to come up with a costume idea still! You are right, yours do sound awesome!

Darkhouse
Book 1

Enter the world of the highly-acclaimed Experiment in Terror Series by visiting…the Darkhouse:
There’s always been something a bit off about Perry Palomino. Though she’s been dealing with a quarter-life crisis and post-college syndrome like any other twenty-something, she’s still not what you would call “ordinary.” For one thing, there’s her past which she likes to pretend never happened, and then there’s the fact that she sees ghosts. Luckily for her, that all comes in handy when she stumbles across Dex Foray, an eccentric producer for an upcoming webcast on ghost hunters. Even though the show’s budget is non-existent and Dex himself is a maddening enigma, Perry is instantly drawn into a world that both threatens her life and seduces her with a sense of importance. Her uncle’s haunted lighthouse provides the perfect catalyst and backdrop for a mystery that unravels the threads of Perry’s fragile sanity and causes her to fall for a man, who, like the most dangerous of ghosts, may not be all that he seems.

Red Fox

Book 2

With Book Two of the Experiment in Terror Series, Perry Palomino and Dex Foray trade in the stormy Oregon coast for the unforgiving deserts of New Mexico.
In the forgotten town of Red Fox, a Navajo couple is tortured by things unseen and by motives unknown. Wild animals slink through their house in the dark, a barrage of stones pound their roof nightly, and mutilated sheep carcasses are turning up on their property. Armed with a camera and just enough to go on, Perry and Dex travel to the desolate locale, hoping to film the supernatural occurrences and add credibility to their flailing webcast. Only their show has a lot more working against them than just growing pains. Tested by dubious ranch hands, a ghost from Dex’s past, and shapeshifting deception, the amateur ghost hunters must learn to trust each other in order to fight the most ancient of myths…or die trying.

Dead Sky Morning
Book 3

With the Experiment in Terror show finding some success, amateur ghost hunters Perry Palomino and Dex Foray embark on their most terrifying investigation yet. A tiny, fog-shrouded island in the rough strait between British Columbia and Washington State has held a dark secret for decades: It was a former leper colony where over forty souls were left to rot, die and bury each other. Now a functioning campground, Perry and Dex spend an isolated weekend there to investigate potential hauntings but as the duo quickly find out, there is more to fear on D’Arcy Island than just ghosts. The island quickly pits partner against partner, spiraling the pair into madness that serves to destroy their sanity, their relationship and their very lives

Lying Season
Book 4

Amateur ghost-hunter Perry Palomino has battled ghosts, fought off skinwalkers and skirted the fine line between life and death. But can she survive bunking down in Seattle for a week with her partner (and man she secretly loves) Dex and his perfect girlfriend, Jennifer? And can she do so while being tormented by a malicious spirit from Dex’s increasingly shady past? With love and life in the balance, Perry must discover the truth among the lies or risk losing everything she’s ever cared about.

On demon’s Wings
Book 5

When the life you wanted has crumbled beneath your fingers, there’s nothing left to do but pick up the pieces and soldier on. You’ve done this before.
But what happens when you no longer feel like yourself anymore? When fires spontaneously start-up around you, when you hear growling coming from underneath your bed, and you no longer recognize your face in the mirror. What happens then?
Ghost-hunter Perry Palomino doesn’t have much time to find out. Now, the evil she used to hunt is a lot closer to home. It’s inside of her, taking over her life bit-by-terrifying bit, and there’s only one person who can help her.
If part of her doesn’t kill him first.

Into The Hallow
Book 6
Expected release date: November 15, 2012

Perry Palomino has fought her demons – and won – but the battle is far from over. She’s now left broken and on her own, leaving behind her life and family in Portland to focus on giving Dex Foray – and the Experiment in Terror show – a second chance. But their past mistakes continue to tease and test their relationship, as does the wild and desolate terrain of the Canadian Rockies. The snow-covered peaks and ravenous forests hide an urban legend too unbelievably frightening to be true and the only way the duo has a chance of surviving is if Perry can let in the very man who sent her to hell and back.

Karina Halle
Author of The Experiment in Terror Series

The daughter of a Norwegian Viking and a Finnish Moomin, Karina Halle grew up in Vancouver, Canada with trolls and eternal darkness on the brain. This soon turned into a love of all things that go bump in the night and a rather sadistic appreciation for freaking people out. Like many of the flawed characters she writes, Karina never knew where to find herself and has dabbled in acting, make-up artistry, film production, screenwriting, photography, travel writing and music journalism. She eventually found herself in the pages of the very novels she wrote (if only she had looked there to begin with).

Karina holds a screenwriting degree from Vancouver Film School and a Bachelor of Journalism from TRU. Her travel writing, music reviews/interviews and photography have appeared in publications such as Consequence of Sound, Mxdwn and GoNomad Travel Guides. She currently splits her time between her apartment in downtown Vancouver and her sailboat, where a book and a bottle of wine are always at hand.

Darkhouse is her first novel and the first one in the Experiment in Terror Series. Things only get better from here on in.
