Everyone at Singer, a boarding school for underprivileged kids, knows the urban legend of the Society of Seven. Decades ago, the original members of the secret guild for elite students murdered the school's founder and then perished in the fire they lit to hide the evidence. Or so the story goes.
Talan Michaels doesn't care about Singer's past. He's too focused on his future and the fact that he'll be homeless after he graduates in May. To take his mind off it, he accepts a mysterious invitation to join a group calling itself the Sevens. He expects pranks, parties, and perks. Instead, he finds himself neck-deep in a conspiracy involving secret passages and cryptic riddles about the school's history. Even worse, he's now tangled in web of lies someone will kill to keep hidden.
Secret of the Sevens is an action packed young adult mystery adventure. I am a big fan of books that feature secret societies and I love puzzle solving and clues, so this was a great fit for me. I couldn’t put Secret of the Sevens down. With more twists, turns and reveals than you can count, a really cute developing crush romance, and a spooky boarding school setting, Secret of the Sevens has something for everyone.
Ever since I saw the Life and Death Brigade on Gilmore Girls, I have become a little obsessed with the idea of secret societies. I wanted to be inducted into one so bad. I never was (or was I??), but I got to live out my secret society dreams through Secret of the Sevens. And their group, the Sevens even had a generation old murder to solve. Oh the intrigue! I am not going to spoil anything about this book, plot wise, because that would be no fun. But I will tell you this, the clues were a lot of fun to piece together and the puzzles and riddles had me pausing the book as I could try and figure them out before the characters. I loved what Lynn Lindquist came up with.
And I loved the idea that the original founder of the school, and a seven put a trust protector in his plan for the school. The estate planner in me was totally geeking out. The idea of a trust protector is not a concept that many people know about, so I was very impressed Mrs. Lindquist! And it fit so well into the story. And for those of you that don’t love the idea of trust protectors, let’s move right along to the very cute romance in Secret of the Sevens. I loved watching Talan’s crush on Laney develop. It was really sweet, and it balanced the action packed mystery adventure wonderfully.
Secret of the Sevens was a great read! I loved the boarding school setting, and I really loved the idea behind the school. It is a really great boarding school that through the generous endowment of the original Seven member was to be used to house and educate underprivileged children along with regular students. They put the orphaned kids up in on campus host family houses. It was a very noble Idea. And the mystery was so much fun to solve. You do not want to miss this book! Lynn Lindquist is an author that I want to see more of.

I actually haven’t really read too many books (if any, from the top of my memory) that have a secret society in them. And seeing as this one was so lovable maybe I should start off my reading in that direction with this?
