Once Upon a Legend is a young adult fantasy reimagining of the story of Excalibur by Mary Ting. I really enjoyed this fast paced fantasy story, and I am excited to see where the series is going to go next. Once Upon a Legend is a great read for young adult readers of all ages. There is a light romance, but it is age appropriate for even younger readers.
I loved all of the mysterious components of the story, and how it only got more mysterious as we went on. The ending has left me on the edge of my seat, waiting for answers and waiting to see what is going to happen next. The pacing of this story was excellent and kept me flipping pages as quickly as I possibly could.
In Once Upon a Legend, we meet our main characters, Prince Merrick and orphan Idrisa, who cross paths at his birthday ball. There Idrisa and her group of friends got way more than they bargained for when they found themselves smack dab in the middle of a big court conspiracy. The book is told mostly dual narrative between Merrick and Idrisa with a few other points of view thrown in towards the end. Idrisa is a fantastic FMC. I love how feisty and strong she is. And I love how supportive her friend group is. This book is perfect for fans of the found family trope.
