Revenge.

Raised to be my father’s weapon against the Coven that took away his sister and his birthright, I would do anything to protect my younger brother from suffering the same fate. My duty forces me to the secret town of Crystal Hollow and the prestigious Hollow’s Grove University—where the best and brightest of my kind learn to practice their magic free from human judgment.

There are no whispered words here. No condemnation for the blood that flows through my veins. The only animosity I face comes from the beautiful and infuriating Headmaster, Alaric Grayson Thorne, a man who despises me just as much as I loathe him and everything he stands for.

But that doesn’t mean secrets don’t threaten to tear the school in two. No one talks about the bloody massacre that forced it to close decades prior, only the opportunity it can afford to those fortunate enough to attend.

Because for the first time in fifty years, the Coven will open its wards to the Thirteen.
Thirteen promising students destined to change the world.

If the ghosts of Hollow’s Groves’ victims don’t kill them first.

My Thoughts

The Coven is the first book in the adult paranormal romance series called Coven of Bones by author Harper L. Woods. I have loved all of Harper Woods previous books so when I saw she was coming out with a new witchy series- I was so excited! And I have to say- the Coven exceeded all of my expectations. It got off to a bit of a slower start, but before long I was totally pulled in  and I kept loving the book more and more as it went on- until I was a complete mess by the end of the book. I’m obsessed with the characters and the twists and turns stole my breath. I need the second book in the series right now. If you are a fan of dark witchy reads- The Coven is not to be missed!

In The Coven, we meet our main character Willow. Willow has many secrets and she has kept herself hidden the coven of witches of Crystal Hollow, but one day the headmaster of their school shows up to personally invite her. When she gets there and weird things start happening, Willow starts looking for an answer. Armed with immense talent and powers and a heart full of revenge, Willow is formidable to say the least. And the Headmaster Alaric has taken quite an interest in her. Alaric is a Vessel, a creature who must drink the blood of witches to survive. Vessels and witches hate each other, so there is a strong enemies to lovers plot to the romance that I totally dug.

This story is dark and as always, it is a good idea to check the trigger warnings prior to reading, but I was obsessed with this story. I loved Willow and Alaric and I am so invested in their tale that I am desperate for the next book. I need to know what is going to happen next. The ending of this book stole my breath away and has been living rent free in my head ever since I finished it. If you are a fan of dark romances and you enjoy the darker side of witchy elemental magic, then The Coven is a book that you need to grab right now!
