My Thoughts

Stud Muffin is the second book in the contemporary romance, Donner Bakery series by author  Jiffy Kate. The books in the Donner Bakery series can each be read as standalone and they are each written by a different author. But they are all set in the same world. They are set in the Green Valley World within the Penny Reid Universe. (If you have no idea what this means, you can check out some of my reviews of other Smarty Pants Romance titles, for a more in dept discussion of the how the publishing line works. Here here and Here)  I imagine that the smarty pants studios has a giant wall chart of Green Valley all laid out with all of the characters, and where they are located in the town. (I’m not sure if they actually have this or not, but wouldn’t it be awesome if they did?)

Stud Muffin is told in dual narrative between our two main characters, Tempest and Cage. Tempest is a self dubbed Duchess of Muffins, and she obviously, works in Donner Bakery. I love that our heroine is named Tempest, which is very fitting with her sometimes very fiery temper. In fact, her part of the story starts off very quickly, where we get to see her temper first hand. Though I think it was very deserved, it was also pretty funny to see what series of events landed Tempest in jail a few times. The start of the book is rapid fire with event, right after event. Because so much happens so quickly, it was a little hard for me to gain my bearings in Tempest’s story. Cage’s story line was introduced a little slower, so he seemed more calm and collected to me initially. But I knew right away that I was going to be a fan of this pairing. Cage and Tempest are great for each other. Cage is a big ole softie at heart. I really loved him. I loved him as Tempest’s friend, and I really loved him as her something more.

If you are a fan of a friends to lovers slow burn romance, then Stud Muffin is going to be a great book for you to check out, even if you are new to the Donner Bakery series. Though, I LOVED the first book, Baking Me Crazy, so I highly recommend that you check that one out as well.  This is the first book I have read by Author, Jiffy Kate, but it will not be my last. I loved her writing style. Stud Muffin features fun and easy dialogue with a fast paced plot that really drew me in.  I am really hoping that Joy  gets a story in the Donner Bakery series. I love how much of a romantic she is. Stud Muffin was a great read, and and I left thinking only one thing- bring on more Smartypants Romance!
