{Review+Giveaway} Smoke and Key by @KelseyJSutton @EntangledTeen

Smoke and Key is a young adult paranormal by author Kelsey Sutton. First off, I have to just point out how crazy beautiful the cover is. I was immediately drawn in because of it, but then the mysterious summary really hooked me. I had to know what Smoke and Key was all about. And talk about starting the book off with a bang. The first chapter was completely creepy and spooky and set the stage for a haunting and mysterious story that I simply could not put down. Smoke and Key was fascinating and something wholly different than I was expecting. If you are a fan of gothic style mysteries, I think you will absolutely love this novel. In Smoke and Key we start out with Key finding her way into the Under. The Under is a world where some  individuals find themselves after death. It is named the under because it is literally the ground underneath their graves, and the only way to enter it is to fall into… Read more »

{Release Day Review+Giveaway} The Boyfriend Bid by @JodieAndrefski @EntangledTeen

{Release Day Review+Giveaway} The Boyfriend Bid by @JodieAndrefski @EntangledTeen

The Boyfriend Bid is a young adult contemporary romance by author Jodie Andrefski. The Boyfriend Bid was a really cute romance story from Engalanged Teen’s Crush line. I am always happy to pick up a new book by their crush imprint because I always know what I can trust to get out of the story. I always know it is going to be a super cute romance, with great characters and a healthy dose of heart, mostly done in a high school setting. And The Boyfriend Bid delivered on all of those elements. There was one aspect of the story that bothered me but it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the story. In the Boyfriend Bid we meet our two main characters, Sarah and Chance. Chance is the school’s new guy and Sarah starts off pretty closed off to him. At first Sarah was a bit offputting to me because she was so, soo guarded, but watching Chance knock down her walls one brick at a time was… Read more »

{Interview+Excerpt} Throw by Rubén Degollado

{Interview+Excerpt} Throw by Rubén Degollado

Why did you write this book? I wanted a book that spoke to my experience as a young Latino and the experiences of my Latino students. The books I tried to give them were either inauthentic caricatures of Latinos or did not speak to the tough reality many of these students face on a daily basis. The one book they did relate to year after year was The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I thought, what if I give them a modern Chicano Outsiders? What if I gave them a novel telling a completely different story about teens living on the fringes of acceptable society, but whose hopes, desires, and regrets were as relatable to my white students as they were to my Latino students? It was something I knew I had to write myself. Is this book autobiographical? The main part of the narrative is completely fiction. However, virtually all the back stories, the memories of the main character, Güero, are from my own experiences and a few are from… Read more »

{Review} Space by Penny Reid

{Review} Space by Penny Reid

Space is the second book in the Laws of Physics series by Author Penny Reid. But to make things a bit confusing, the Laws of Physics series is the second trilogy series in the Hypothesis series. Each of the trilogy follows a new set of characters, but at least one of the main characters is tied to science. And I love a nerdy romance. Especially if Penny Reid is the author. I think you all know by now that she is one of my very favorite authors of all time. I loved the first book, Motion soo much ( you can check out my review HERE) Space picks up a few years after the events from Motion left off, with Mona running off on Abram, and replacing herself with her twin sister Lisa. (if any of this sounds confusing to you, then you need to go back and read motion because this is a series that does need to be read in order.) I loved Motion so much, but I… Read more »

{ARC Review} Wicked Saints by Emily Duncan

{ARC Review} Wicked Saints by Emily Duncan

Wicked Saints is the first book in the dark fantasy series, called the Something Dark and Holy series by author Emily A. Duncan. I am all about dark fantasy, so I was super excited to dive into a new world. And even better if it is the first book to a new series. Wicked Saints has a lot of things that I really enjoy in a book. I really liked that the magic system was intertwined with politics and religion. I loved the russian inspired setting. That is a setting that I don’t read about too much in the young adult fantasy realm, but it is a fascinating landscape. I had a few pacing issues with the story, but I am still interested to see where this series will go from here. Wicked Saints is the story of a holy war between Kalyazin and Tranavia that has been going on for centuries. At the root of this holy war is magic. More specifically, the ability to talk to the gods… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Battlefield Love by Skyler Andra & Mila Young

{Review+Giveaway} Battlefield Love by Skyler Andra & Mila Young

Battlefield Love is the first book in the new adult operation cupid series by Skyler Andra & Mila Young. The operation cupid series is a mythology and fantasy romance, that has a really cool premise. You all know I am a sucker for anything mythology, and I love Mila Young’s Gods and Monster’s series so much, so I was extra excited to see what they would do with another mythology series. The coolest part of Battlefield Love is the world setup and the treatment of the gods of greek and roman mythology. I did have a small issue with one aspect of the story, but I love the setup and Battlefield Love has all of the makings and potential to be an awesome series. I can’t wait for the next book. In Battlefield Love we meet our main character, Locke is just a normal woman, until Eros (the Roman version of Cupid) pulls her into the world of Gods and their human Avatars. The concept of Avatars is one that… Read more »
