{Review+Giveaway} Exposure by Sylvie Parizeau

{Review+Giveaway} Exposure by Sylvie Parizeau

Exposure is the third book in the Incandescent series by author Sylvie Parizeau. Each of the books in the Incandescent series can be read as standalones, but they are all set in the same world and there is some character overlap, so you would probably be best served if you read the books in order. I am going to be completely honest with you. I had every intention of reading the books in order, but the end of the year (and Thanksgiving totally snuck up on me, and I didn’t have a chance to read either books one or two.) But, the silver lining here is that I wasn’t lost or confused while reading Exposure. And I really enjoyed P.O.’s story, so now I am even more excited and determined to read the first two books because I am sure they are going to be just as awesome as this one. Exposure is Philippe-Olivier Tisserot, or P.O. for short, and Auréle’s story. PO is seriously one of my favorite characters… Read more »

{Review} #Whichwood by @TaherehMafi

{Review} #Whichwood by @TaherehMafi

Whichwood is a middle grade fantasy novel by Taherah Mafi. Even though this book is technically middle grade, I think it will appeal to fans of young adult books. It is a very detailed and long novel, and rather dark in some parts, and it felt like upper middle grade/lower young adult to me. I read, and really loved Furthermore last year. (you can check out my review here) So, I was super excited when I saw that a companion novel set in the same world was going to be released. So, it should come as no surprise that I absolutely loved Whichwood as well. It is a delightful book. Whichwood follows our main character, Laylee, who lives in the village of Whichwood. Whichwood is set in the same world as the village of Farenwood, but it is a totally different place. Farenwood is a town where colors come to life, and Whichwood is a town that is in stark contrast. Laylee finds herself becoming more and more colorless as… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} The Chosen Knights by Mary Ting

{Review+Giveaway} The Chosen Knights by Mary Ting

The Chosen Knights is the first book in the Angel Knights series by author Mary Ting. However, It was recommended to me to try the prequel novella, The Angel Knights, first. Each of the books can be read on their own, but I decided to read this series in order, starting with The Angel Knights. On one hand, I was glad that I did. It helped me get to know Lucia and Zachary a little better, and since I didn’t read the originating crossroads series, this book helped me put all the pieces together for the crossover characters. But on the other hand, I didn’t love the Angel Knights. I found it to be a little simplistic and a lot rushed. I didn’t have the chance to connect with any of the characters. But still, I love the idea of The Chosen Knights, which is the first full length book in the series, and I wanted to see what Mary Ting could do with the characters in a full length… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Offsetting Penalties by Ally Mathews @EntangledTeen

{Review+Giveaway} Offsetting Penalties by Ally Mathews @EntangledTeen

Offsetting Penalties is a young adult sports romance by author Ally Mathews. Offsetting Penalties was a very quick, cute read. I enjoyed it a lot, but I do wish it was a little longer. It felt a bit rushed in terms of plot development because of the short length, but the storyline was adorable and the romance was smile worthy. Overall, it was a cute read. Offsetting Penalties is told in dual narrative between our two main characters, Izzy and Garret. Garret is the star football player that suffered an injury sometime before the book started. He had to have surgery and his coach is a little concerned with his range of movement in his foot, so he signs him up for ballet lessons to improve his flexibility. Izzy is a self imposed school outcast, which she has her own reasons for (and we learn more about them as the book goes on, which I loved) and ballet dancer. Izzy was a surprisingly big personality for me; one that I… Read more »

{Release Day Giveaway} #Rosemarked by Livia Blackburne @lkblackburne @DisneyHyperion

Hi Everyone! This is Livia Blackburne, and I’m thrilled to share ROSEMARKED with you at long last. There are a lot of elements to this book, including a love story, a spy story, reflections on trauma and mortality, medical ethics, and political intrigue.  Perhaps because of this, my research for the book was equally eclectic, from archery and stick fighting lessons, to chats with memory researchers and soldiers, and lots and lots of reading, including books about leper colonies, hospice care, and PTSD. Hopefully, I wove it all into an entertaining and thought-provoking story! This story centers on Zivah, a talented healer with an incurable illness, and Dineas, a traumatized soldier. The two couldn’t be more different, and I had a lot of fun writing their unlikely love story.  In order to work together, they both have to let go of their own prejudices and preconceptions. It’s a painful process, with fights and misunderstandings, anger, laughter and tears, but in the end, they both come out as stronger people…. Read more »

{Release Day Review++Excerpt+Giveaway} Trapped by Rhonda Pollero

{Release Day Review++Excerpt+Giveaway} Trapped by Rhonda Pollero

Trapped is a romantic suspense novel by Rhonda Pollero. It is the third book in the Finding Justice Series. The Finding Justice series follows a set of brothers, but each of the books can be read as standalones. This was the first book in the series I have read, and I didn’t have any problems following the story and the characters. Trapped really did read like a true standalone. I enjoyed both the romance and the suspense aspect of the story, though maybe I did enjoy the romance aspect a tad bit more. Trapped follows Declan and Chasyn. I was initially attracted to this book because of the legal aspect of the story. I am a sucker for anything having to do with law. And I did enjoy the trial part of the story, but Chasyn’s character fell a little short for me. She is a paralegal, which I thought was a great tie in. But sometimes I just couldn’t figure out why she was doing some of the things she was… Read more »

{Mini Review+Excerpt+Giveaway} Totally His by @ErinNicholas #ReadForever @ForeverRomance

{Mini Review+Excerpt+Giveaway} Totally His by @ErinNicholas #ReadForever @ForeverRomance

Totally His is the third book in the Opposites Attract  series by Erin Nicholas. Each of the books can be read as standalones, and they are each contemporary romances. Totally His is the first book in the series that I have read, but I really enjoyed it. It totally hit the spot. I have been reading lots of heavy duty fantasies lately, which I have been absolutely loving, but I did forget how much I enjoy a lighthearted- feel good romance. And Totally His was just that. It was exactly what I needed to break up all the intense books I have been reading. Totally His is the story of Sophie and Finn. I immediately loved Sophie and Finn. Their first encounter was pretty funny. Sophie owns a theater, and Finn is called to the scene of a theater on fire and he is greeted by a woman in a robe and pink fuzzy slippers trying to sneak back into the building. Sophie will do anything she can to save her theater. Insert into… Read more »

{Release Day Review+Giveaway} #Otherworld by @jasonsegel & @bankstirregular @DelacortePress

{Release Day Review+Giveaway} #Otherworld by @jasonsegel & @bankstirregular @DelacortePress

Otherworld is the first book in the young adult science fiction series of the same name by author duo Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller. I know they have teamed up to write the nightmare! series, but this is the first book I have read from them. I love the concept of Otherworld because virtual reality technology is developing at an astounding rate, so it is the perfect time to visit a crazy virtual reality world and see what kind of implications that might have. And Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller took that concept and blew it out of the freakin’ water. I am chomping at the bit for the second book! Otherworld is hands down, one of the best novels I have read all year. I loved it. There are so many layers to Otherworld. First, there is the new Otherworld headset technology that was released to a couple thousand test users, which was awesome by itself. You basically got to experience a whole world where you could do anything… Read more »
