{Bookish Fun} The Story Behind 18 Famous Book Covers

{Bookish Fun} The Story Behind 18 Famous Book Covers

There are so many amazing book cover designs out there, but have you ever thought about how some of your favorites came to be? Often times, the cover designs are conceptualized two years before the books are even published. The designers work closely with editors and publishers to create a truly captivating cover that will be marketable. This sometimes conflicts with designers’ artistic vision, but they eventually settle on a design that draws readers in and propels them to buy. If you want to know more about the process, Invaluable created a really neat infographic on 18 of the most iconic book covers and the stories behind them. Check it out below!

For upcoming topics, and more information on Top Ten Tuesday, visit Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. ——————————– Today’s topic is:   Books to Read By the Pool/At the Beach  (This can also serve as your summer TBR) Click on the book covers for more information or to add it to your goodreads —————————– Here are some Young Adult books I’m hoping to read this summer. It’s a combination of romances and fantasies (with romance) because I am such a sucker for a good fantasy. I don’t care what time of year it is. And I am always in the mood for a good romance. Always. I’m reading Mistake of Magic right now and omgomgomg I love this series so much. It might be my favorite fantasy romance of all time. It takes the top honor on my list, but I am also super excited to… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Up to You by @Daisy_Prescott

{Review+Giveaway} Up to You by @Daisy_Prescott

Up to You  is the fourth book in the new adult contemporary romance, Love with Altitude series by Daisy Prescott. Each of the books in the series can be read as standalone contemporary romances. I read, and really enjoyed the third book in the Love with Altitude series, Wild For You. I also really enjoyed Daisy’s Wingman series, so I knew that I was going to enjoy Up to You. Daisy is a feel good contemporary author that never fails to put me in a better mood. and Up to You did not disappoint. I will be the first to admit that I am a sucker for anything involving a wedding at the moment. I mean, I always have loved a good fake relationship/need a date to a wedding book, but now that I am actually planning my wedding, I am extra excited about wedding storylines. (go figure!) Up to You is the story of Mae, Landon and Aiden. Yes, there is a love triangle going on in this novel,… Read more »

{Review} Always Never Yours by Austin Siegemund-Broka and Emily Wibberley

{Review} Always Never Yours by Austin Siegemund-Broka and Emily Wibberley

Always Never Yours is a young adult contemporary romance by Austin Siegemund-Broka and Emily Wibberley. This novel is cute and adorable for so many reasons. There is no denying that this is a feel good read from start to finish. I love a “best friends falling in love”, love story. But I also love that Always Never Yours was written by real life high school sweethearts. In my head, they were telling their own story (To be clear, Austin and Emily have never said this was a fictionalized version of their story. I’m just imagining that it was because I want to.) Always Never Yours is an adorable romance, peppered with some drama to balance everything out. All in all, this was a satisfying novel that I really enjoyed. The other reason, I really enjoyed Always Never Yours is because the premise of the book reminded me of the YA version of Dane Cook’s movie, Good Luck Chuck (I know, I am dating myself with this one!)  In the movie,… Read more »

{Review} The Valiant by Lesley Livingston @LesLivingston @PenguinTeen

{Review} The Valiant by Lesley Livingston @LesLivingston @PenguinTeen

The Valiant is a young adult novel about a female gladiator. I was pretty much in from the very moment I saw the cover. And then I read the summary and I was really in! And then I saw the piles and piles of hype this book was getting and I was in even more. Sometimes hype makes me nervous, but I was already so convinced that I would love The Valiant that this hype just ratcheted my excitement up more. And guys, this is no ordinary hype. I am pretty sure The Valiant was the book I saw popping up on almost everyone’s top 10 books of 2017.  And I am beyond happy to report that The Valiant lived up to my very, very high expectations and even exceeded them! In The Valiant we meet Fallon, who has a vendetta against Julius Caeser for killing her sister. But before she can carry any of her plans out, she is captured and sold as a slave. She is sold to an elite training… Read more »

{Release Day Giveaway} #Rosemarked by Livia Blackburne @lkblackburne @DisneyHyperion

{Release Day Giveaway} #Rosemarked by Livia Blackburne @lkblackburne @DisneyHyperion

Hi Everyone! This is Livia Blackburne, and I’m thrilled to share ROSEMARKED with you at long last. There are a lot of elements to this book, including a love story, a spy story, reflections on trauma and mortality, medical ethics, and political intrigue.  Perhaps because of this, my research for the book was equally eclectic, from archery and stick fighting lessons, to chats with memory researchers and soldiers, and lots and lots of reading, including books about leper colonies, hospice care, and PTSD. Hopefully, I wove it all into an entertaining and thought-provoking story! This story centers on Zivah, a talented healer with an incurable illness, and Dineas, a traumatized soldier. The two couldn’t be more different, and I had a lot of fun writing their unlikely love story.  In order to work together, they both have to let go of their own prejudices and preconceptions. It’s a painful process, with fights and misunderstandings, anger, laughter and tears, but in the end, they both come out as stronger people…. Read more »
