Kyle and Kimberly have been the perfect couple all through high school, but when Kimberly breaks up with him on the night of their graduation party, Kyle’s entire world upends—literally. Their car crashes and when he awakes, he has a brain injury. Kimberly is dead. And no one in his life could possibly understand.
Until Marley. Marley is suffering from her own loss, a loss she thinks was her fault. And when their paths cross, Kyle sees in her all the unspoken things he’s feeling.
As Kyle and Marley work to heal each other’s wounds, their feelings for each other grow stronger. But Kyle can’t shake the sense that he’s headed for another crashing moment that will blow up his life as soon as he’s started to put it back together. And he’s right.
All This Time is a young adult contemporary romance by Mikki Daughtry and Rachael Lippincott. All this Time is an emotional read. It sent me on a roller-coaster of emotions. there were some very high highs and some pretty sad and tough lows, but all in all I really enjoyed reading this novel. If you are a fan of contemporary young adult stories that cover a wide array of emotions, I think All This Time will be a book that you will want to check out.
In All This Time we meet our main character, Kyle as he is graduating high school. Kyle basically starts out this book feeling on top of the world. He has his long time girlfriend and best friend, Kim and he’s at his graduation party. When Kim breaks up with him everything starts to shift quickly for the worse. The night culminates in a car accident that kills Kim and leaves Kyle hospitalized with a head injury. I really felt for Kyle. I also really loved that we had a male main character/narrator for this story. It felt unique.
There is a lot going on for Kyle. Everything shifted so fast in his life that the aftermath leaves him reeling, understandably so. A large chunk of the beginning of the story is Kyle trying to figure out how he can pick of the pieces of his life, and made my heart ache for him. When Kyle meets, Marley the feeling and emotion of the book started to shift again for the better. I flipping loved Marley! I love that Kyle said that everyone needs a Marley in their lives. I will say, I thought the book was going to be a little predictable when I started reading it, and I was totally fine with that because I knew it was going to be a strong story. And while the plot was still a strong story, the direction that the plot took, was a total surprise for me. This book was not what I expected it to be and I loved every single unexpected scene, even the ones that made me cry. And oh boy did I ever cry while reading All This Time. This book hit me right in the heart strings.
Bottom Line: All This Time was a really good read. I felt like it kept getting better as the story went on, which I loved! I think it will be perfect for fans of young adult contemporaries that deal with issues like illness and loss. It’s a great mix of sad, cute, important and lighthearted moments. This was an emotional read for sure, but it was a really satisfying story.
