The Empress of Scarred Secrets is the first book in the adult fantasy series called, The Truths Within by Andrea Corbin. I am so happy to have discovered Andrea and her debut novel because I loved this book. This is a great representation of adult fantasy, with a fantastic story and great group of diverse characters. I honestly enjoyed basically everything about this book, and I cannot wait to continue on with the series. (The cliffhanger in this novel kind of killed me and I demand book 2 right now. please and thank you.) If you are a fan of adult fantasy, you need to read The Empress of Scarred Secrets.
In The Empress of Scarred Secrets we meet our main character, Verena. The thing I enjoyed most about Verena was how complex she is, and how relatable she came across to me. Around Verena is a vast world and great group of characters. A land set on the precipice of war, Verena travels to attend the quarter century meeting and assume her place at the Demon Lords table.
I was so intrigued by the story. I loved how vast the world was and I loved all the types of beings that reside in the world. There are humans, demons, wyverns, half demons to name a few. And the characters were fantastic as well. I loved Sev and Marik- Verena’s two guardians. I am so ready for the next book in the series. But be warned- there is a killer cliffhanger at the end of this story. If you are a fan of epic adult fantasies with a great, diverse cast of characters, a cool story and a wonderful main character with a good dose of spice, then The Empress of Scarred Secrets is a book you need to check out right now. I can’t wait for book two!
