Seventeen-year-old Lindsey Taylor has been living a charmed life—always the lead in school plays, possessor of a healthy entourage and a hot boyfriend. But halfway through her junior year, the unthinkable happens. Her boyfriend dumps her. She screws up her audition for the spring play. And to top it all off, her theater teacher wants her to run lines with Trey Berger, a gamer guy who irritates her practically every time he opens his mouth. Lindsey needs to find some better luck and quick.

Trey Berger can barely tolerate Lindsey Taylor. It’s bad enough that their best friends are dating and he has to see Lindsey at group hangouts. Now they have to rehearse together. Berger would rather do just about anything else, even chill with his grandmother, whose dementia has forced her to move in with his family.

But as the semester continues, Berger discovers there’s more to Lindsey than the drama queen persona she puts on for everyone else’s benefit. And the person behind the mask might be someone he cares about. A lot. So what exactly is he going to do about it?

And while Lindsey desperately tries to change her luck and heal from the breakup, she slowly realizes Berger has become her best friend. This video-game-playing boy makes her laugh. And holds her when she cries. Could he possibly become something more?

YA ReviewMy ThoughtsLife in the Lucky Zone is the second book in the Zone series, by Patricia B. Tighe. The Zone series are each young adult standalone novels told in dual narrative. While you can read these books by themselves, if you are given the chance, I think it would be nice to read them ion order. They follow a group of high school friends, and I loved the first book in the series. I liked this one too, but I think I enjoyed the couple from the first book, Life in the No Dating Zone, just a little bit more. However, the writing in Life in the Lucky Zone is very solid, and the romance will grow on you just as much as the characters will.

What I found to be really interesting about Life in the Lucky Zone, is that we not only knew the main character from the first book, but she was in a serious relationship at the time. I was expecting the second book to be about one of the other friends, Not Lindsey. Not to mention, Lindsey was not the nicest of friends, so I wasn’t sure how she was going to be in this book. Turns out, I was really happy to get to see her grow and get to know her a bit better. She has layers and complexities to her personality, and I was very pleased we got to explore them a bit more. She surprised me.

I liked Trey so much. I went into the book thinking that he was going to be my favorite. (and I was right.) He hates Lindsey right off the bat, so watching them interact was pretty darn entertaining. Seeing their attraction and connection with one another grow and grow as the story went on was very satisfying. They ended up being a couple that I was rooting for much more than I initially thought I would be.

Bottom line: Patricia B. Tighe has done it again. Life in the Lucky Zone is a feel good romance if there ever was one. You will enjoy this lighthearted read if you are a fan of young adult contemporaries and like the bantering couple dynamic. If you enjoyed Life in the No Dating Zone, then you should pick up this next installment. Even if you are like me, and didn’t like Lindsey from the first book, give this one a try- I think it will surprise you.

About Patricia B. Tighe

I’m not the writer who’s been writing for as long as she can remember. In fact, I didn’t start writing fiction until I was almost thirty. But, I’ve always been a reader. Which, of course, is one of the basic requirements for being a writer. I’ve read everything from horse novels and spy thrillers to historical romance and fantasy sagas—and lots in between. There’s something wondrous about picking up a book and entering a new world with new adventures. And I don’t plan on stopping any time soon.

When I’m not reading, I hang out with my husband and two old dogs, plus my grown sons whenever I get the chance. In the fall I spend way too much time yelling at my TV while watching football. I’m also addicted to British TV shows. Top Gear, anyone?

Oh, yeah. And I write. Kissing books. Or at least books that include kissing. Hope you enjoy them!
