It's Senior Week, that magical in-between time after classes have ended but before graduation, chock-full of gimmicky theme parties, last-minute bonding, and family traditions. Olivia couldn't be more ready. Class salutatorian and confident in her future at LSU, she's poised to sail through to the next phase of her life.
But when the tiny hiccup of an unsigned off-campus P.E. form puts Olivia in danger of not graduating at all, she has one week to set things straight without tipping off her very big and very nosy extended family. Volunteering to help at a local golf tournament should do it, but since Olivia's mom equipped her phone with a tracking app, there'll be no hiding the fact that she's at the golf course instead of all the graduation parties happening at the same time. Unless, that is, she can convince the Fab Four--her ride-or-die cousins and best friends Sophie, Charlie, and Wes--to trade phones with her as they go through the motions of playing Olivia for the week.
Sure, certain members of the golf team are none too pleased with Olivia's sudden "passion" for the game. And sure, a very cute, very off-limits boy keeps popping up in Olivia's orbit. But she is focused! She has a schedule and a plan! Nothing can possibly go wrong . . . right?
10 Truths and a Dare is the companion novel to 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston. Both of these books are young adult contemporaries, and these books are both completely fun and adorable. While you don’t have to read 10 Blind Dates to be able to follow along with 10 Truths and a Dare, I would recommend it because you will see a lot of character overlap and it helps to get a glimpse into this big awesome family. If you are a fan of cute, fluffy YA contemporaries with big over the top families, then you may really love 10 Truths and a Dare.
In 10 Blind Dates, we met out main heroine, Sophie. I loved Sophie, so I was super happy to see that 10 Truths and a Dare showcases Sophie’s cousin Olivia. Olivia is a senior in high school and she is ready to enjoy senior party week- the week between classes and graduation where daily parities and hang outs occur as a way for the seniors to let loose. Olivia couldn’t be more excited because she is already set with LSU as her college, but soon disaster strikes! One of her credits didn’t get counted properly and now all of Olivia’s plans are in jeopardy. She might not graduate at all! I can’t even imagine- my type A butt would be freaking out.
The solution is a golf tournament that she can volunteer at to get her required school credit. The kicker is that the tournament takes place during senior week. But what if someone could go to the tournament in her place? Then she could go to some of the parties and events. Like with 10 Bind Dates, the whole family gets involved to help Olivia out. Olivia calls in her cousins as reinforcements and plenty of fun, hijinks and close calls ensue. Ashley Elston writes books that are so compulsively readable. Both of these companion novels are such a good time, and I loved seeing Sophie, her boyfriend Wes and their other cousin Charlie. It was wonderful seeing some old favorites from 10 Blind Dates. If you liked 10 Blind Dates, you will love Olivia’s story.
Bottom line: If you are a fan of young adult contemporaries that feature great friendships, funny as heck scenarios and a wild over the top family, then 10 Truths and a Dare is a book you should not miss. This is an adorable read, full of fun times and plenty of laughs. I highly recommend it.
