{Review+Giveaway} THE RUIN OF KINGS by Jenn Lyons

{Review+Giveaway} THE RUIN OF KINGS by Jenn Lyons

The Ruin of Kings is the first book in the Chorus of Dragons series by author Jenn Lyons. The Chorus of Dragons series is a high fantasy series, and I have to say, I really loved this book. I am so excited to continue on. I just know this is going to be a series that I will completely love! (hopefully from start until finish!) The Ruin of Kings is Jenn Lyons debut novel and she certainly created a big and complex world to start off with. This novel is a large undertaking. It is not a book that you can speed through, but rather this is a book that is meant to be explored and savored. If you read it too fast, you may be confused or overwhelmed by the sheer amount going on in the plot and the multiple timelines that are present, but if you slow down The Ruin of Kings is a very well crafted story. In the Ruin of Kings we meet our main character… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Chemistry Lessons by Meredith Goldstein @MeredithGoldste

{Review+Giveaway} Chemistry Lessons by Meredith Goldstein @MeredithGoldste

Chemistry Lessons is a young adult contemporary romance by Meredith Goldstein. Chemistry Lessons is one of those books that I knew right off the bat I was destined to like. The summary just kept checking off all my boxes. Scientist main character that wants to find a formula for love. Check! Lots of experiments with pheromones and guys. Check check! a cute romance. triple check! Chemistry Lessons was an adorable read that was a lot of fun. This is the first book I have read from author Meredith Goldstein, but I would love to see more young adult or new adult from her. Chemistry Lessons is the story of our main character, Maya. At the start we see Maya get dumped, but she is determined not to let her summer go to waste, and she immediately tried to continue her mom’s old research on pheromones and human attraction. (did I mention this storyline is a hit for me?!) Maya initially starts out with the purpose of getting her ex boyfriend… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} The Queens of Innis Lear by Tessa Gratton @TorBooks

{Review+Giveaway} The Queens of Innis Lear by Tessa Gratton @TorBooks

The Queens of Innis Lear is an adult fantasy by Tessa Gratton. I really, really enjoyed this novel. It had a slow and kind of confusing start, but in the end that makes a lot of sense, because this is an epic story that requires a lot of world and character building. This is Tessa Gratton’s first foray into adult fantasy, and I think the Queen of Innis Lear was a rich and detailed world. Overall, the story was well executed and a great read. The Queens of Innis Lear does work well as a standalone, but I am kind of hoping that we see more from this world. In The Queens of Innis Lear we are introduced to the island of Innis Lear, and we meet the three princesses of Lear. Each of the princesses have such a unique personality and they each have their own story, which was great. I really enjoyed getting to know each of the sisters. But it was also an initial frustration for… Read more »

Texting has become a main way of communication for a lot of people. Personally, I love to textm especially when I don’t have time for a full out phone conversation. One of the things that I love to incorporate into my text messages are Bitmoji’s. If you are not familiar with a bitmoji, it is a custom designed avatar that you can have look like you(Or like anything you want.) I love including my little bitmoji as a text response, so today I thought it would… Read more »

{Mini Review+Interview} We are Party People by @LeslieMargolis ‏

{Mini Review+Interview} We are Party People by @LeslieMargolis ‏

I am so excited to have Leslie Margolis here to chat parties and party people. Thank you for being here today Leslie! 1. Describe We Are Party People in a tweet (140 characters or less) One shy, quiet kid + mandatory mermaid costume = Catastrophe or triumph?  Read on. 2. Can you describe your perfect party for me? (What are we celebrating? How many people are there? Where is it?) My perfect party is small and casual, with no occasion necessary.  It is filled with artists and philosophers and activists. Everyone has outrageous stories to tell.  There’s scintillating conversation, scrumptious food and drink and beautiful music. 3. What was the most fun part of writing We Are Party People? The best part of writing any novel is coming up with the initial idea and characters. Then, thinking about what could go wrong—and making it happen.  I like my characters to suffer!  Big-time nightmare scenarios are so much fun to read about.  Don’t you think? 4. Tell us something we didn’t… Read more »

{Review} #Whichwood by @TaherehMafi

{Review} #Whichwood by @TaherehMafi

Whichwood is a middle grade fantasy novel by Taherah Mafi. Even though this book is technically middle grade, I think it will appeal to fans of young adult books. It is a very detailed and long novel, and rather dark in some parts, and it felt like upper middle grade/lower young adult to me. I read, and really loved Furthermore last year. (you can check out my review here) So, I was super excited when I saw that a companion novel set in the same world was going to be released. So, it should come as no surprise that I absolutely loved Whichwood as well. It is a delightful book. Whichwood follows our main character, Laylee, who lives in the village of Whichwood. Whichwood is set in the same world as the village of Farenwood, but it is a totally different place. Farenwood is a town where colors come to life, and Whichwood is a town that is in stark contrast. Laylee finds herself becoming more and more colorless as… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} THE ADVENTURER’S GUILD by @ZackLoranClark & @NickEliopulos @DisneyHyperion

{Review+Giveaway} THE ADVENTURER’S GUILD by @ZackLoranClark & @NickEliopulos @DisneyHyperion

THE ADVENTURER’S GUILD is a middle grade adventure story by authors and friends Zack Loran Clark & Nick Eliopulos. The Adventurer’s Guild was a ton of fun! I really enjoyed this book. And can I just go off on a tangent really quickly to mention how detailed and gorgeous this book is? From the absolutely stunning map end pages, to the wonderfully designed chapter pages, I really love all the detail that went into the hardcover version of this book. It gets an A+! I love a good middle grade novel. And I love a good adventure novel filled with magic. And The Adventurer’s Guild knocked both of those loves out of the ball park. This was a great book! The Adventurer’s Guild follows two friends, Zed and Brock. I loved their friendship. What I loved the most about it, is that the boys come from different class levels in the story. Brock is expected to join the merchants because of his wealthy family. And Zed wants to make… Read more »

{ARC Review+Giveaway} I Hate Everyone but You by @AllisonRaskin @GabyDunn @WednesdayBooks

{ARC Review+Giveaway} I Hate Everyone but You by @AllisonRaskin @GabyDunn @WednesdayBooks

I Hate Everyone But You is a story about the friendship between two girls that go away to different colleges. It is written by Gaby Dunn and Allison Raskin, two girls that have a popular YouTube channel. I have not personally watched their youtube channel but I am all about this trend of influencers writing novels. It was really easy for me to put the two main characters in Gaby and Allison’s shoes. I have no idea if they meant for that to happen, but I have seen in a few other reviews that their characters are really similar to the two girls on their youtube channel. What I liked the most about I Hate Everyone But you was the format it was told in. These two best friends move away from each other and go to different colleges. I love how relatable that is. We have all had friends that we have to physically leave at some point or another, whether it’s for school or for a job etc…. Read more »
