Human or vampire, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always – always – guard your heart.
The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.
But winning won’t be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival.
Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father’s crown… and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.
But there’s no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home. And Raihn may understand her more than anyone – but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall, in a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love.
The Serpent and the Wings of Night is the first book in a new series of heart-wrenching romance, dark magic, and bloodthirsty intrigue, perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash and A Court of Thorns and Roses.
The Serpent and the Wings of Night is the first book in the new adult fantasy series – Crowns of Nyaxia by Carissa Broadbent. I have heard amazing things about this book, so when I saw book 2 was releasing soon, I decided now was a perfect time for me to pick up this series. And I am so happy that I did. I loved this book and I am already itching to start the second one. I currently reading the standalone novella- Six Scorched Roses, which is series number 1.5 and then I am going to move on to book 2, which releases next week! If you are a fan of fantasy romance and you love series like From Blood and Ash, Taken by Fate (the Alpha territories series) by Shannon Mayer, then you will love the Crowns of Nyaxia series.
In The Serpent and the Wings of Night, we meet our main character Oraya- who was found by the vampire king of the House of Night as a child. He took her in, and taught her how to survive in a world where everyone around her wanted to kill her. The vampires in the Crowns of Nyaxia series are a brutal bunch. Oraya loves her father- Vincent and because of how much she loves him, she is bound and determined to enter and win the Kejari- a brutal competition that only comes around once every 100 years. The winner of the Kejari is granted a wish, and Oraya desperately wants to win. But this competition, and its’ competitors are about to turn Oraya’s world completely upside down. because here she meet Raihn, a vampire from a rival clan, who is nothing like she expected him to be.
I was completely enamored with Oraya and Raihn. I love how strong, smart and resourceful Oraya is. And Raihn is equally delectable. when they teamed up, I knew their story was going to be one that I was going to want to savor. And Savor it I did. I read this book as slowly as I possibly could because I didn’t want it to be done. There was delicious tension between the two of them, and their romance was wonderfully slow burn. There was some spice towards the end, and I hoping for even more in this next book but I am also expecting plenty of drama because of the crazy ending in The Serpent and the Wings of Night. If you are a fan of dangerous fantasy worlds, bloodthirsty vampires, swoon worthy romance and a completely terrifying deadly competition, The Serpent and the Wings of Night is going to be a book you will love. I could not get enough of these characters and I am so happy that I have book 2 to finish out their story.
