Haley Wagner's life just got a lot more complicated. As if turning her struggling ranch around isn't tough enough, she's forced to call him for help. With his hard eyes and even harder body, Cord is an irritatingly sexy contradiction of hot and cold. How can she possibly hide her embarrassing secret when just looking at Cord is a combustible event?

Former Army Ranger Cord Brannigan has a secret, too. He promised his fallen teammate he'd protect the tempting, fiercely independent Haley from a distance, but now they're stuck together for three weeks. Alone. Keeping his hands off will take every ounce of control he can muster. And that control is slipping...

My Thoughts

The Right Ranger is the third book in the Men of At Ease Ranch series by Donna Michaels. I have  not read either of the first two books, but we did get to see glimpses of the two couples from those books, and I really liked them, so I might eventually go back and read their stories. As for Haley and Cord’s story. I liked it. It was a super quick read for me. Easy to digest in one short sitting, but I didn’t love it if I am honest with myself. It was a good read, but not much more than that.

Cord is Haley’s deceased husband’s best friend. But the whole book Haley is carrying this burden of her husband’s secrets. Honestly, it was really intriguing for me. I knew some of what he did, but the way Haley spoke about it, I felt like there was way more than we were being kept in the dark about. I was super interested to find out what all of the secrets were. But Haley was very noble about the whole thing and she didn’t want to taint his friend’s view of their friend. I respected that. But I ended up being disappointed by the way the secrets all played out. View Spoiler »

The part of the story that was my favorite, was obviously the romance between Cord and Haley. It was so clear to see that these two had chemistry. I enjoyed watching their romance unfold. It was excellent actually. They sizzled off the page. The rest of the story is what let me down. I’m not really sure what I wanted, but I just wanted more. Overall, this was a quick and fun read. It just didn’t blow me away. But the characters and the writing were solid and the romance was well done.

  1. I think you liked this one more than I did. The secret thing ended up being a non-issue which doesn’t really work. But what irritated me was how much of their time together was summarized instead of experienced. I think it could easily be a longer book. You’re right about the sizzle in this one. But overall I just wasn’t happy with it. Gave it 2 stars. You can see my review here http://www.stuckinbooks.com/2017/06/the-right-ranger-men-of-at-ease-ranch-3.html

Thanks for sharing your review, I’ve read mixed reviews on this one… sounds like one you have to read for yourself and see how you feel afterwards. 🙂

Thanks for your thoughts. I haven’t read any of this authors work. That’s too bad that the story didn’t work since the couple was so great. 🙁
