{Review+Giveaway} Bad Breed by Kat Ross @katrossauthor

{Review+Giveaway} Bad Breed by Kat Ross @katrossauthor

Bad Breed is the third book in the Gaslamp Gothic series by author Kat Ross. The gaslamp Gothic series, was previously known as the Dominion Mystery series, which includes The Daemoniac and The Thirteenth Gate. I love Kat Ross’ books. Her writing is always so on point and engaging, which these days is one of the most important aspects I look for when I picking what books I want to read. And I think Bad Breed might be my favorite Kat Ross novel yet! I am such a big fan of reimaginings, and lately I have been loving darker reads, so a dark reimagining of Beauty and the Beast is right up my alley! I loved this book! Though Bad Breed is the third book in the Gaslamp Gothic series, it can be read as a standalone, so if you really don’t want to, you do not have to reads the first two books. However, I really enjoyed both The Daemoniac and The Thirteenth Gate, so if you love a… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} The Thirteenth Gate by Kat Ross @katrossauthor

{Review+Giveaway} The Thirteenth Gate by Kat Ross @katrossauthor

The Thirteenth Gate is the first book in the Dominion Mystery series by Kat Ross. I have previously read The Daemoniac by her, which I thought was going to be the first book in the series, but really ended up being more of a prequel. I have also real the first book in her Fourth Element series, and I while I enjoyed that one was well, the Dominion series is really shaping up to be my favorite! But, what is cool about The Thirteenth Gate  is that there is character overlap between the two series. It was very creative and well done on her part. I enjoyed getting to see Alex and Vivienne, though I have not read all the books in the Fourth Element series. The Thirteenth Gate did not disappoint. I loved this atmospheric read. It was exactly what I wanted, and I can’t wait for more. The Dominion series is a young adult detective mystery story with a flair of the paranormal. It felt like the anime Ghost Hunt (which I am… Read more »

{ARC Review+Giveaway} The Daemoniac by Kat Ross @katrossauthor

{ARC Review+Giveaway} The Daemoniac by Kat Ross @katrossauthor

The Daemoniac is the first book in the Dominion Mystery series by Kat Ross. Earlier this year I read The Midnight Sea by Kat and I really enjoyed it. It was more of a high fantasy action adventure. This book felt completely different and I really liked this one too. Kat Ross is a very talented author. I am very happy that both of the books I have read by her have been so diverse and so excellent in their own regard. The Daemoniac is a young adult detective mystery story with a flair of the paranormal. It felt like the anime Ghost Hunt (which I am super upset is no longer on Netflix! Why does Netflix keep taking all the good shows off? But I digress, that is a rant for another day.) mixed with the Jackaby series by William Ritter, and a touch of Penny Dreadful. I loved the atmospheric setting paired with all of the paranormal elements. I can’t wait to read more in the Dominion Mystery series…. Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Jackaby by William Ritter @AlgonquinYR @Willothewords @RFJackaby

Jackaby is the first book in the young adult paranormal detective series by author William Ritter. The first three books in the series are already out, and believe me when I tell you, this is a series you are going to want to binge read. I LOVED Jackaby. It is one of my favorite books of the year, and hands down my favorite young adult book I have read in 2016. I need to start Beastly Bones ASAP. If you are new to the series, never fear, I have a giveaway you can enter at the bottom of the post to win a copy of the first book so you can become as addicted to this awesome series as I am. {Review+Giveaway} ASP of Ascension by @BR_Myers

{Review+Giveaway} ASP of Ascension by @BR_Myers

ASP of Ascension is the first in the young adult Nefertari Hughes Mystery series by B.R. Myers. I really enjoyed ASP of Ascension and I am really digging the cover of the book. It reminds me so much of an Egyptian version of the old school Nancy Drew book covers. Which I completely love. I also love all things Egypt so I found this book particularly interesting. It centers around a very important and secret exhibit coming to a small town, and a curse surrounding it- Cleopatra sarcophagus! Terry, short for Nefertari, starts at a new school because her dad, who is a famous archeologist, is bringing a secret exhibit to town. I really liked Terry. I found her trips with her parents to be fascinating, and as painful as it was for her, I really enjoyed the glimpses into her past that we got. Espically that fateful trip into the fourth chamber where she was injured, and she lost her mom. Not to mention all of the curse business…. Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} The Enchanted Rose by @Nadia_Nader @XpressoTours

{Review+Giveaway} The Enchanted Rose by @Nadia_Nader @XpressoTours

The Enchanted Rose is the first in a young adult paranormal magic series, called Misty Hills. Misty Hills is the mysterious town that Vivian is shipped off to after her mother passes away and her father freaks out at the idea of being a single father. (which is pretty crappy in and of itself.) But the result is that Vivian is dropped in the middle of a huge mystery basically. It was a cool little opener to what looks like it will be a good paranormal and magical series. The book was a little short, so it read like an introduction to this family curse. You don’t get a ton of answers because the questions really pile up. Vivian is quite the inquisitive teen, but you do get some answers. Just enough to pique my interest into wanting to read the second book. It was refreshing to see a book featuring a younger ya heroine. I feel like lately we have been seeing 17 and 18 year olds all over… Read more »

{Audiobook Review} The Quiet Game by Greg Iles

{Audiobook Review} The Quiet Game by Greg Iles

The Quiet Game is the first book in the Penn Gage series. He is a prosecutor turned author, turned detective (kind of). I thought the mystery in the Quiet Game was really compelling, but the audiobook narrator kind of took away from the story. He did about 3 or 4 of the voices well, but all of the other voices sounded comically bad. He could not do a woman’s voice at all. And the story is a serious one, so it was distracting. But if you could get past the bad female and secondary character voices, you can’t help but get sucked into the story. There is a decades old civil rights murder in this small southern town. It is a cold case and because of some meddling from a journalist and some help from Penn Gage, the case is about to get re-opened. There are national forces involved and the whole thing gets crazy really quickly. It was a pretty good murder mystery and there was a lot of… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Hidden Sins by @KariceBolton

{Review+Giveaway} Hidden Sins by @KariceBolton

Hidden Sins might have been my favorite Karice Bolton book yet! It is the first in the new adult suspense series, about Luke Fletcher. I have only read paranormal books by Karice Bolton before, which I have enjoyed but this romantic suspense kept me on the edge of my seat! I love that this series is about Luke. It is told in dual point of view between Luke and Hannah, but it seems like Luke is going to be the main character of the series. It is about time a guy gets his own series. Hannah is on the run from her community. For a lot of the book we just know that she knows some secrets about her hometown, but we don’t know what they are. Just that they are bad enough to make her want to pack up and leave everyone and everything she has ever known. Luke runs into Hannah in a starbucks in LA. Right away, I knew he was going to be a sweetheart. I… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Boneseeker by Brynn Chapman @month9books @rrsmythe

I am a big fan of Sherlock Holmes. So when I saw a book about Sherlock’s daughter, who who wants to follow in her fathers deductive reasoning footsteps, I knew I had to read it. Plus throw in the fact that her specialty leads her to a job at a museum as a “purveyor of abnormal science” how could I pass it up?? Sherlock plus mystery plus just a touch of creepy and weird. That just sounds so good! And it was good! It was exactly as I expected it to be. There is plenty of good ole Sherlock snark and wit in Arabella, so I loved her right off the bat. She is not like other young women her age. And given that the book takes place in 1910, that is not necessarily a good thing. One of her oldest friends is the son of Dr. Watson- Henry. Henry is so smitten with Arabella, or as he calls her Bella. It was so adorable to watch how devoted and… Read more »
