She’s searching for redemption. What she finds is her destiny.
From the USA Today Bestselling Author of Kingdom of the White Sea comes a new series of standalone fantasy romance tales set in the same vibrant world: The Book of All Things. Disappear into this tumultuous tale of revenge and redemption, as two fated souls are thrust into each other’s paths once more.
Rhiain enjoys a charmed life as the daughter of one of the most powerful men in the realm. Spoiled and vain, she has never met a need or want she couldn’t attain. The dark spots in her memory have been tucked away, with all other unpleasant things.
Then a terrible mistake brings her entire world crashing down around her. Her life shifts in an instant; her fate, uncertain. Her father’s punishment for her is forcing her to train for a life as one of his prized assassins.
But a chance encounter in a familiar tavern will change everything.
Everything she knows.
Everything she feels.
Everything she is.
As Rhiain gets closer to handsome, enigmatic Asterin— a man she doesn’t remember but claims to possess the truth about her dark spots—she begins to accept there is much more to these gaps in her understanding of the past.
Because these memories were taken from her for a reason. And there are those who will do anything to stop her from remembering.
The Altruist and the Assassin is a standalone fated love fantasy romance tale set in the Kingdom of the White Sea universe, with hints of Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty.
The Altruist and the Assassin is the third book in the ya/na fantasy series called the book of all things by Sarah m. Cradit. This series is set in the kingdom of the White Sea world, which is the same world another series of hers. You don’t need to read that series first in order to enjoy this one but it is helpful to have some background information on the world and some of the families within it. I loved this installment in the series.
In The Altruist and the Assassin we meet our two main characters, Rhiain and Asterin. I really enjoyed their story and it felt different than the romances in the first two books. The book summary calls their story a fated love story with hints of Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty. And while I do understand that, what I loved most about them was how layered and nuanced their romance really was. Their story was at times confusing because the whole thing was shrouded in mystery from all directions. With Rhiain, her mystery comes from her own spotty memory, and she is desperate to try and fill in the gaps in her memory. With Asterin, his mystery comes from outside influences, but I loved the combination of the two. Their chemistry was undeniable and leap off the page at me. As always, Sarah does a fantastic job with world building and fans of big worlds and epic fantasies really need to check out her books. This one has tons of betrayal, romance, and lots of twists and turns.
I also love the idea of how this story is going to fit into the larger overall world. This story, and series, is set in in the Kingdom of the White Sea, which is the same world her Kingdom of the White Sea series. The Book of all Things series is a series of interconnected standalone fantasy romance stories. If you are a fan of epic fantasy and even more epic world building, you NEED to read Sarah’s books. She is one of the best world building authors I have ever read! Sarah M. Cradit is one of my favorite authors ever.
