Sebin, a young tiger spirit from the Juhwang Clan, wants nothing more than to join the Thousand World Space Forces and, like their Uncle Hwan, captain a battle cruiser someday. But when Sebin's acceptance letter finally arrives, it's accompanied by the shocking news that Hwan has been declared a traitor. Apparently, the captain abandoned his duty to steal a magical artifact, the Dragon Pearl, and his whereabouts are still unknown. Sebin hopes to help clear their hero's name and restore honour to the clan.
Nothing goes according to plan, however. As soon as Sebin arrives for orientation, they are met by a special investigator named Yi and his assistant, a girl named Min. Yi informs Sebin that they must immediately report to the ship Haetae and await further instructions. Sebin finds this highly unusual, but soon all protocol is forgotten when there's an explosion on the ship, the crew is knocked out, and the communication system goes down. It's up to Sebin, three other cadets, and Yi and Min to determine who is sabotaging the battlecruiser. When Sebin is suddenly accused of collaborating with the enemy, the cadet realizes that Min is the most dangerous foe of all...

Tiger Honor is the second book in the middle grade A Thousand Worlds series by author Yoon Ha Lee. The Thousand Worlds series are middle grade sci fi/ mythology mash up adventures in the Rick Riordan Presents line. I believe all of the books in this series act well as standalones. They are set in the same universe but I believe they each follow separate characters. I did not read the first book, and I felt Tiger Honor worked well on its’ own. This book was a fun mash up of a science fiction space opera adventure combined with elements of Korean mythology. This was such a unique premise and mashup that I was instantly intrigued by this world. And I was right, this book was a ton of fun!
In Tiger Honor, we meet our main character Sebin, who has always dreamed of joining the Thousand Worlds Space Forces just like their Uncle Hwan. But When Sebin learns that Uncle Hwan has been labeled a traitor for abandoning his post with the Thousand Worlds Space Forces. The Thousand Worlds Space Forces is claiming that he ran off in search of the Dragon Pearl. I loved the diverse cast of characters and I loved sweet sweet Sebin! This adventure was a ton of fun and I really enjoyed the space setting quite a bit. I did find myself wishing that the book was a little longer so I could have gotten to know the characters a bit better, but overall I really enjoyed Tiger Honor.
If you are a fan of mythology based books or of space opera’s I think you would enjoy Tiger Honor. I loved the space setting in a middle grade story- I don’t think there are enough good middle grade science fiction out there, so Tiger Honor is a great edition to the genre. Great for fans looking for a quick read.
