Series: Ember of Night #2
Genres: Paranormal, Romance, Young Adult
Source: Paperback ARC from Publisher
Also in this series: Ember of NightPerfect for fans of Brigid Kemmerer and Tracy Wolff, the second novel in Molly E. Lee’s angels-and-demons YA series will keep readers turning pages until the very end.
I just saved the boy I’m falling for from a gruesome death by a demon. And what does he have to say? I’m the key to opening the gates of Hell. I mean, a thank-you would’ve been nice. Or another scorching-hot, forbidden kiss. Either way, destiny will have to find someone else to torment, because I’m so done.
Or I was, until my little sister starts cackling exorcist-style and stares at me with eyes that aren’t hers. They’re Marid’s, the Greater Demon I just kicked back to the dark realm he came from. Possessing Ray whenever he wants is his ultimate revenge.
The only way to break the tether between them includes a road trip through Hell, aka the Ather. I quickly discover nothing is as it seems in this place. Yeah, there are realms of terror, greed, and desire, but there’s also peace, and a beauty I never knew existed...and it’s eerily familiar.
With each obstacle we encounter, I slip a little further into the chaotic energy of my growing dark powers. And when an unexpected betrayal hits me square in the chest, I freefall into them.
Fate painted me as the monster of nightmares, and after this? Destiny is about to learn just how monstrous I can be.
Shadow of Light is the second book in the young adult paranormal romance series by the same name from author Molly E. Lee. This series has taken me by surprise in the best way! I absolutely loved Ember of Night, and I was anxiously awaiting Shadow of Light. And I have to say, Shadow of Light did not disappoint. I still think Ember of Night was my favorite book, but Shadow of Light is definitely a five star read. I loved it! I love the way Molly E. Lee writes romances. She writes the best character connections that slow burn into such an intense sizzle. This romance between Harley and Draven literally burst into flames and left me wanting so much more!
This series is so addictive, which should not surprise me at all because Entangled teen writes some of the most addictive fantasy and paranormal romances. They publish books that speak to my swoon loving soul. Shadow of Light picks up right where Ember of Night left off, after that crazy cliffhanger. Here we rejoin Harley, as she not only tries to navigate her new powers and the new revelation of what she might be, but also as she has to try and save her sister Ray from demonic possession.
Harley has faced such disgusting and serious abuses at home from her father that she has been made to feel weak her whole life. But she is anything but weak. I admired the heck out of Harley. Her fierce desire to help her little half sister get a better life than her is so admirable. I loved her little sister Ray, even though I still feel like she is portrayed to be so much older than her seven years of age. She sounds like an adult most of the time. The romance is excellent in Shadow of Light and so is the plot. This book went in a different direction than I was initially expecting, but I loved it!
Bottom line: If you are a fan of paranormal romances that feature strong heroines, swoony love interests and a super strong plot that will keep you flipping pages until the end, the Ember of Night series is a series you will absolutely devour. I loved Shadow of Light, these books are both in my top reads of 2021
