“I’m not going to be the good guy in this story. You should know that before you get
the wrong idea. You’re probably expecting that I’m some kind of hero, or warrior, or
chosen one. Yeah, I’ve heard it all before. But I’m not. I’m just a normal kid. Some
would even argue that I’m evil, and I guess… I am. It’s complicated; you’ll see.”

When Kalib Andrews imagined his sixteenth birthday, he never thought his adoptive parents would try to kill him. Or that he’d spend it running away from The Order - a secret society seeking the blood of the last Angel Warrior to raise a lost goddess.
Then again, Kalib never suspected that Angels, Demons, Nephilim, and Magicborne even existed. And he never - even in his wildest dreams - thought he was one of them!

Packed full of exhilarating action, suspense, mystery, and magic, this is the first book in an exciting series that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The Last Angel
Warrior is the perfect read for fans of the Percy Jackson series and those who love young adult fantasy novels.

John Wells, the author of The Last Angel Warrior, on pursuing your writing dreams…

“Silence. Hygia laid awake. Watching the calm rise and fall of her husband Dylan’s chest [as he slept]. He appeared calm. She knew he was far from it.”

I recently came across an old green journal while I was helping my mother move. The journal had been stuffed inside a box, where a few other “gems” from my college years had been thrown, and stored away in a garage doomed to be forgotten. I guess, this was my way of preserving the things that must have meant something to me in college. Written in faded black sharpie across the cover of the journal are the words “John’s Movie Book.”

It is inside this old journal that I scribbled the first musings of a comic book I was planning on working on. Funnily enough I don’t remember ever trying to write a comic book, but there it was, scribbled on the second page, after a list of quotes that I must have thought were funny at one time. Jotted down to use in a future script – like they were nuggets of gold I couldn’t possibly let myself forget (they weren’t) – on the top left corner of the second page are the words “Caleb Comic Book”. The spelling is different, the chosen medium is different, but sure enough, these are the first musings of what would later become The Kalib Andrews Chronicles (Amazon link).

Isn’t it funny how many journeys one idea can take you on? I never in my wildest dreams would have imagined, in 2008, when I jotted down those thoughts that I would still be thinking about that idea twelve years later. And not only would I be thinking about it, but that new worlds would have sprouted from the seeds that were planted way back then.

Now, I could turn this into a lecture about how the first draft is never the final draft. Or how you have to just keep writing until you’re done. Or that whatever you do, just create. But I am not going to do that. Because we’ve heard all these things before and stating those things would just be beating a dead horse. But I do want to encourage each and every one of you, whatever you do, whatever brings you joy – do that. And never give up. Keep pursuing your art (whatever that may be) and go with it, wherever it takes you.
