A New Adult Fae series? Umm, HECK YES! Fates Divided is the first book in the Halven Rising Series. What in the H-E- double hockey sticks is a Halven you ask? –> View Spoiler » This is the first paranormal that I have read by Jules Barnard and I have to say, I think I like it even more than her contemporaries. I love paranormals and magical based new adult books, and this one is so good! I loved how the world was a college campus combined with part of the fae universe. It was so cool. Jules did an excellent job of blending modern science with the magical. While reading, I kept thinking, “yep, I could totally see this happening.”
Elena turns 18 and everything starts to change for her. I didn’t put together that it was her 18th birthday that was the catalyst for everything, until a lot of the crazy events had already started happening, but still it was pretty cool to see everything that she could do. And what I loved was that through the bloodlines, different traits and abilities were passed down. Because Derek and Elena were completely different.Fates Divided is told mostly from Elena’s point of view with a sprinkling of chapters from Derek’s view. Of course I wanted to see more of Derek, because he is oh so dreamy and protective of Elena.
I kind of wish that the timeline of the story was a bit more stretched out. I know the urgency of the situation was heightened by the one week deadline, but it was freaking me out how fast Elena had to work to not only develop her abilities and find this big mysterious cure. I should note that the writing and the pacing didn’t feel rushed, just the timeline of events was crammed together by design. It was ampping up my heart rate while reading.
I need more of this series right now. I know that the summary says each of these books can be read alone because they feature a different couple, but because of the world building and background information that you get in Fates Divided, I think it would be best to read this series in order. I wouldn’t want to pick it up at a later book. if you are like me, and have been dying for a new adult paranormal or fae series, this is the one for you! I love anything having to do with the paranormal and having fae is even better. For some reason there are very little adult fae books out there but so far, I have loved all the ones I have tried. I think this would be a good read for me and now I’m super curious about the Halven and okay, that cover is totally drawing me in as well. 😛

A new adult fae series is seriously cool. I mean, where do you ever come across on of those? It sounds like this one was an amazing read! I love the cover and the idea of it sounds so cool as well. I have recently been reading more books about fae and will have to check this out at some point.
