WE WERE LIARS meets GOSSIP GIRL - this YA thriller with a splash of dark academia is full of secrets, lies, privileged teens and beach parties. The perfect summer read.
A body in the pool. A friend who might be an enemy. A vacation they'll never forget . . .
Linden has always felt like an outsider and spending the summer at his best friend's vacation house, surrounded by money and privilege is doing nothing to lessen his imposter syndrome. But he soon has bigger concerns than fitting in - there's a body in the pool and everyone's a suspect - including him.
Liar’s Beach is a young adult murder mystery. I was instantly drawn in because Liar’s Beach is a modern re-imagining of Agatha Christie’s murder mystery The Mysterious Affair at Styles. Though I have not read The Mysterious Affair at Styles, I am a big fan of Agatha Christie’s stories, so I was excited to see a modern take on one of them. Liar’s Beach had all the feel of a classic Agatha Christie story and I really enjoyed it! I would love to see Katie Cotugno do more murder mysteries in the future!
In Liar’s beach, we meet our cast of characters, Linden, Holiday, Jasper, and Eliza, at a summer house in Martha’s Vineyard. At first everything just seems like typical prep school pretentiousness, until someone ends up dead at a pool party. Liar’s Beach was an easy quick read because I quickly became absorbed in the world. Soon I was questioning everyone alongside our would be detective, Holiday.
If you are looking for a YA mystery spin on a classic murder mystery story, Liar’s Beach is one that did not disappoint. I liked the setting, the secrets, the characters and Agatha Christie style vibe that the story had. I think fans of We Were Liars will enjoy Liar’s Beach.
