{Review+Giveaway} Courting Darkness by Robin LaFevers

{Review+Giveaway} Courting Darkness by Robin LaFevers

Courting Darkness is the first book in the young adult fantasy Courting Darkness Duology by author Robin LaFevers. The Courting Darkness duology is a spin off the young adult His Fair Assassin Trilogy. That trilogy has shamefully been on my to be read pile for years! I have all of the books just sitting on my shelves mocking me for not reading them. Luckily, this is a spin off series and doesn’t need to be read after the original trilogy, but I am totally kicking myself for never reading the trilogy because Courting Darkness was so good! I loved it so much, and now I am bumping up the His Fair Assassin trilogy to the very top of my TBR. In Courting Darkness, our main character is Sybella, who is also one of the main characters from the His Fair Assassin trilogy. I loved the way Robin LaFevers tells a story. She doesn’t just tell, she weaves a tale. Her writing is atmospheric and dark and totally delicious. The other… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Chemistry Lessons by Meredith Goldstein @MeredithGoldste

{Review+Giveaway} Chemistry Lessons by Meredith Goldstein @MeredithGoldste

Chemistry Lessons is a young adult contemporary romance by Meredith Goldstein. Chemistry Lessons is one of those books that I knew right off the bat I was destined to like. The summary just kept checking off all my boxes. Scientist main character that wants to find a formula for love. Check! Lots of experiments with pheromones and guys. Check check! a cute romance. triple check! Chemistry Lessons was an adorable read that was a lot of fun. This is the first book I have read from author Meredith Goldstein, but I would love to see more young adult or new adult from her. Chemistry Lessons is the story of our main character, Maya. At the start we see Maya get dumped, but she is determined not to let her summer go to waste, and she immediately tried to continue her mom’s old research on pheromones and human attraction. (did I mention this storyline is a hit for me?!) Maya initially starts out with the purpose of getting her ex boyfriend… Read more »

{Review} Ever the Brave by @ErinSummerill @HMHKids

*Note: This is the second book in a series that needs to be read in order. If you are new to the series, you can check out my review of book one, Ever the Hunted HERE* Ever the Brave is the second book in the young adult fantasy series, Clash of Kingdoms by Erin Summerill. I loved the first book in the series, ever the hunted, and I have to say I really enjoyed Ever the Brave as well! I found the story to be an excellent follow up novel to the first book. It was just as strong of a story. ever The Brave picks up shortly thereafter the events of the first book, so you do need to read this series in order.  There are lots of interesting aspects to touch on in Ever the Hunted- there is magic, romance, political intrigue and action and suspense. Plenty for any fan of fantasy. One of the things I loved about Ever The Hunted was the interesting magic abilities found… Read more »

{ARC Review+Giveaway} Witchtown by @CoryPutmanOakes @HMHTeen

{ARC Review+Giveaway} Witchtown by @CoryPutmanOakes @HMHTeen

Witchtown is a standalone young adult supernatural by author Cory Putman Oakes. I think Witchtown would appeal to both young adult readers as well as middle grade readers. It is young adult, but it is on the younger end and the romance is very light and age appropriate, so all ages of witchy fans can enjoy Witchtown. This is the first book I have read from Mrs. Oakes and I have to say I really, really enjoyed it. I completely forgot that this book was going to be about a mother daughter con team. (very light emphasis on the word team.) Does that ever happen to you? I read the summary a while ago when I decided to sign up for the blog tour, and then forgot all about it until I picked up the book to read it for my review. And I never go back and read the summaries. It is more fun for me that way. So I was super excited when I saw that Macie and… Read more »

{Review} Ever the Hunted by @ErinSummerill @HMHKids

Ever the Hunted is the first book in the young adult fantasy series, Clash of Kingdoms by Erin Summerill. Ever the Hunted is Erin’s debut young adult novel, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I found the story to be very engaging and I love a good magic infused fantasy, so this was right up my alley. It kind of reminded me of Maria V. Snyder’s Healer series. The world that Erin created was very interesting and I can’t wait to read the next novel in the series. There are lots of interesting aspects to touch on in Ever the Hunted- there is magic, romance, political intrigue and action and suspense. Plenty for any fan of fantasy. Ever the Hunted is the story of Britta, who is an outcast in her land. This was interesting because her father was so closely respected by the king. But because Britta’s mom was from a neighboring country, who they were on the verge of war with, Britta has basically been… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} This Raging Light by Estelle Laure @HMHKids @starlaure

{Review+Giveaway} This Raging Light by Estelle Laure @HMHKids @starlaure

This Raging Light is author, Estelle Laure’s debut novel. It is a young adult standalone contemporary romance, and it is a very moving read. Lucille is the main character, and after some issues with her parents, she is left to care for her younger sister Wren. It is a lot to dump on anyone, let alone a teenager. Lucille made a bad romantic decision right off the bat. One that had me cringing, because it is one of those things that you know is not going to end well for someone. She fell hard for her friend’s twin brother. And oh yeah, he had a girlfriend. I wasn’t sure how everything was going to play out, but Estelle Laure made me believe. She made me believe in the characters and most importantly, she made me believe in the romance between Lucille and Digby. Estelle Laure’s writing had a very lyrical feel to it, which helped made me fall into a reading rhythm easily. This kind of writing is very hit… Read more »

{ARC Review+Giveaway} You and Me and Him by @KrisDinnison @HMHKids

{ARC Review+Giveaway} You and Me and Him by @KrisDinnison @HMHKids

You and Me and Him is a young adult contemporary that explores the age of old question of what happens when two best friends like the same guy. Will he come between the two friends? This review is going to be a bit different than my normal reviews because of the nature of the book, I don’t want to give away any specifics, because I fear if I say something, anything at all it will give you some idea of how the whole Tom situation is going to turn out. And that would just not be any fun. So I will give you a basic rundown of You and Me and Him and leave the enjoyment of reading it and finding out what is going on with Maggie, Nash and Tom all for yourself. First I need to start out by talking a bit about how much I love this cover. I think it fits the story perfectly, and I like that it isn’t like multitudes of other YA contemporary covers… Read more »
