Thank you very much for being here at Book Briefs today Kaylie.
Thank you for having me! I’m excited to be here-
1. Describe Falling in Danger in Twitter Detail (140 characters or less) A young journalist stumbles onto the story of a lifetime. And in the process, uncovers layers of her heart she never knew existed.
2. What was the hardest character to write and why? I would say Albert (he’s the disturbed only son of the ring boss). He’s nuts. He’s obsessed with women, and Jessica (the heroine), in particular. He’s pretty slimy, so getting into his head was a challenge. I had to channel my inner loser 😉
3. Today I am having a cleaning day. ::shudders:: What is one thing you wish would clean itself around the house?
I was just complaining about this the other day! The chore I hate the most would easily have to be dusting. Ugh. It just seems like there’s zero return on your investment. You don’t walk into a house and go, “Wow! This place has just been dusted, and it looks awesome!” Now, vacuuming is a different story 😉 I love those fresh vacuum marks in the carpet. And I heart my vacuum cleaner. It’s all shiny and red like a sports car.
4. Even when I was writing papers for school, I always hated outlining. Do you have an outlining process for writing?
I do, but it’s not a formal process. Mostly, it’s just in my head. An idea forms and then grows from there. I write plot points down on sticky notes and keep them beside my computer so I won’t forget. But more often than not, by the time I get to that part in the story, it’s taken a different turn anyway. But I do love those sticky notes. My desk looks like a sticky note playground. They’re everywhere.
5. When you are not writing, what are some things that you love to do?
, is that my amazing publisher, Beachwalk Press, has agreed to donate 40% of its proceeds to The Pixie Project animal rescue, located in Portland, Oregon.
I love to read! I got a Nook Tablet for my birthday, and that thing is my new favorite gadget. I’m also a movie junkie. I love all kinds; romance, thrillers, mystery, comedy, horror. You name it, I’ve probably seen it.
And I have two sweet and very active little girls. They keep me pretty darn busy-
6. If we looked under your bed right now, what would we find?
Great question! I think everything I’ve ever lost and told myself that it couldn’t just disappear into thin air, is under my bed. Particularly hair bands and binkies. I don’t know what it is when you have a baby, but the binkies just vanish. Poof! Just like that. Then, six months later, you look under the bed for your cat, and there they are. Every binky you have ever purchased, scattered all over the floor, keeping company with stray socks, hair bands and dust bunnies.
7. Can you tell us something we don’t know about Falling in Danger?
The biggest thing I’d like everyone to know about Falling In Danger,
Falling In Danger is about finding love again, even when logic tells you it’s just not possible. In the book, our heroine stumbles onto an underground dog fighting organization in the heart of LA. Even though the ring is eventually busted, she can’t forget what she’s seen. She’s driven to do a story on the dogs who were left behind and the sexy detective who ended up saving them.
I love animals. I love how incredibly big their hearts are and how they always seem to forgive. No matter what. This book is very special to me, and it’s my hope that the lives of some animals will be touched by this gift.

Kaylie’s publisher Beachwalk Press will be donating 40% of the book sales to an organization called Pixie Project. Which is a local animal rescue shelter in Kaylie’s area. How awesome is that??
About the Author:
For Kaylie Newell, storytelling is in the blood. Growing up the daughter of two gifted writers, she knew eventually she’d want to follow in their footsteps. While she’s written short stories her whole life, it wasn’t until after her kids were born that she decided to shoot for the moon and write her first romance novel. She hasn’t looked back since!
Kaylie lives in Southern Oregon with her husband, two little girls, an elderly Chihuahuamix, and two indifferent cats.

A journalist stumbles onto the story of a lifetime. And finds herself falling in danger…
When young, naïve reporter Jessica Brady is kidnapped and held for ransom by the head of an illegal dog fighting organization, undercover police officer Ian Cole realizes he’s got his hands full. He’s on the verge of busting the ring when he’s assigned to babysit her, which isn’t an easy feat. She’s neurotic, feisty, and also happens to be scared to death of dogs. Now he has to figure out a way to get them both out alive.
Jessica has no idea the thug she’s becoming attracted to is actually a cop, but it’s clear he’s not like the rest of the men in the organization. Particularly Albert Mancini, the disturbed only son of the ring boss, who has an appetite for alcohol and women. Especially Jessica.
When Ian’s cover is blown, he’s forced to bust the ring early. Weeks later, Jessica can’t stop thinking about the experience that has changed her forever. She wonders about the tall, sexy detective who saved her life. And the mobster’s prize-winning pit bull, Bruta.
An idea for a story is born. What if these dogs were given a second chance at life?
As Jessica digs deeper into their troubled world, she ends up falling for the police officer who rescued them. And discovers layers of her heart she never knew existed.
But when Albert escapes from jail, her happiness turns to terror. He hasn’t forgotten about the detective who put him behind bars. Or the beautiful young woman whose every move has become his obsession.
