Summary(from Goodreads)
Sixteen-year-old Keegan is struggling to keep her huge secret from her friends–she’s an elf, descended from a long line of elves that live in secrecy alongside humans.
In elfin society, mates are predetermined but not allowed to meet until they are eighteen. Against tradition, Keegan’s brother Thaddeus told her Rourk’s name because his visions warned him she’d need Rourk’s protection, especially since Keegan will play a key role in the coming war between the dark and light elves.
Rourk finds himself drawn to Keegan’s side every time she thinks his name. He wants to talk to her but remains in the shadows, silently guarding her every time she mentally beckons him. A twist of fate thrusts the two of them together when Rourk is forced to step up his protection and make his presence known.
An ancient prophecy deeply entwines Keegan’s family and the future of their society. Somehow they must find a way to thwart fate and win the battle…without losing Keegan. With war brewing, and dark forces aligning, will Keegan and Rourk ever have the life together that they both desire?
Keegan is a really interesting girl. She is described as beautiful and she flies through guys. She is just having fun until she meets her chosen, Rourk. I loved that whenever she thought his name, he was drawn to her. I also really liked how mysterious she was to him. (He didn’t even know her name for the longest time.) Keegan was at first described as clumsy, but as soon as she started training with her brother that all changed. She became almost perfect, beautiful, smart, nice, and coordinated. Everything came so easy to her. Sure, she trained a lot, but she didn’t seem to struggle with anything ever. I would have liked to see some more strife somewhere in her life. But I really liked Keegan, so I enjoyed seeing everything fall into place with her. And I loved the description of her family’s house. It seemed so cool and beautiful! All that glass, and even a waterfall inside! So awesome.
Rourk was another one of those perfect characters. He was good looking, nice, strong, chivalrous, and completely head over heels for Keegan. He would do anything for her. I have yet to see a flaw, he didn’t even act on his jealous impulses ever. (though with how the book ended, maybe we will see some more jealousy in book 2?) I really liked Rourk but I wanted to get to know him a little better. I loved his parts in the book, so I can’t wait to find out more about him in book 2.
I liked the whole light v. dark theme in Coexist, but we hardly saw any of the dark elves. I want to learn more about their history. I think that might give me a better idea about their motives. I have a feeling that we will be seeing more about them in the next book and I can’t wait!
Aside from a lot of the characters being seemingly flawless, coexist was a really engaging read. I enjoyed myself the whole time, and I wanted to read more! It is such a cute and magical read. I loved learning about elves and the history behind their mating process. I thought that was really unique. The ending was such a surprise and honestly it was my favorite part of the book. I was sad with what happened, but it will add some drama into Conflicted (book 2). I think the second book is going to be excellent! I can’t wait to see what is going to happen with Keegan, Rourk and the whole gang. (particularly Donald) So many new elements came into play at the end of this book and I can’t wait to see how they all fit into the story. I need to read the second book, Conflicted, right now!

Yay! You liked it. 🙂 Nice review without giving too much away.
I’m curious about it, especially considering what you hinted at in your review. And I haven’t read a book about elves all too recently; this looks like a good one to try!

Thanks for the review. Now I am curious about the book. I haven’t read any elves books yet and it seems to me that Julia Crane have captured the essence about them and I can’t wait to read it.
