Summary(from Goodreads):

Marcus Hardy had hoped to enjoy a year away at college while he put the summer he’d rather forget behind him. But instead, he’s jerked right back to the coastal town of Sea Breeze, Alabama due to a family crisis. His dear ol’ dad found himself a girlfriend only a few years older than Marcus. So now his sister needs help dealing with their mother who is mentally falling apart. The only bright spot to returning is the fascinating red head who sleeps over several times a week. The problem is she’s sleeping in bed with his new roommate, Cage Watson.
Willow “Low” Foster needs a place to live. Running to Cage’s apartment every time her sister kicks her out isn’t exactly a long term solution. Juggling her courses at the local community college and a part time job doesn’t produce excess income. But Cage has a new roommate and suddenly sleeping over at her best friend’s apartment isn’t such a bad thing. Not when she gets to see those sexy green eyes of Marcus Hardy’s twinkle when he smiles at her like he wants her there.
Even though Cage seems a little territorial where Low is concerned, Marcus finds time to spend with Low without upsetting his roommate. Cage may use his small college baseball star persona to sleep with every hot female in his path but he’s still under the disillusion that when he’s through sowing his wild oats, he’s going to marry Low. Marcus intends to change that assumption for both Cage and Low. Until his carefully laid plans come crashing down with a revelation he never expected. He’ll have to choose between Low or his family. Because once the truth comes out…. there’s no other choice.

I have read all of Abbi Glines books, and what I love about her is that she is so consistent. She always writes such awesome books and amazing characters. If I’m looking for a “sure thing” great book, I know I can turn to anything Abbi Glines writes. Just a warning though- Because of Low is for a much older YA crowd.

I remember thinking how much I liked Marcus from Breathe. He is so sweet and loyal. I’m really happy he got his own story. He is just a genuine good guy. Willow is pretty awesome too, but I didn’t like how hard she was on herself! Obviously she is an attractive girl but she just sees herself as average. Not to mention everything she has on her plate, she is an inspiration. I loved how this book was just as much about her as it was about Marcus. You really see Low coming into her own- the change is so gradual, but as the story goes on you can really watch as Low becomes happier and more confident and secure. It is really a cool journey to watch. The actual storyline of Because of Low is super sweet and hot. It was great to get to learn more about Marcus’ backstory, and there certainly didn’t see everything coming.

Abbi has such a gift for writing amazing characters. After finishing Because of Low I starting thinking about what it was that I loved most about Abbi’s books. Her stories are all riveting, and boy oh boy can she write romance, but I have to say her characters are my favorite! They are so well written and fleshed out, it is hard to find a single character that I have not fallen in love with. If you have not checked out Abbi Glines books yet you are really missing out! She is one of my favorite YA authors!

  7. I too was really happy when I read Because of Low. You’re bang on about how great both Low and Marcus are. And especially how Low is an inspiration for her attitude in regards to her messy situation with her sister, who I did not like at all!
