Here are the questions for chapters 9-12. I really want to read the rest right now!
Discussion Questions Chapter 9-12

Catcher and Ethan share some personality traits. What makes Mallory, Merit, and even us readers attracted to these guys? Would you date/mate with someone like these guys in real life?

I agree that there is something very attractive about a mysterious, confident almost bad boy, but I don’t think I would date someone like Ethan in real life. I like my guys nice. There is just something to be said for sweetness and honesty that I really like. Ethan still does not seem completely genuine to me, there is just something about him that I still don’t trust. And no trust is a big no-no for me.

In Chapter 9 we learn of another murder. Do you see any patterns with the previous murder and Merit’s attack? Do you have any guesses as to who is responsible and the motive behind the murders?

I’m really not sure! I mean all of the girls have been of a similar build- they have the same hair color, the same age range, etc. But I don’t know who or why. I don’t really think it is a rogue vampire. There is something about Celina that I absolutely do not trust at all, so it would not surprise me if she had a hand in it. But other than that, I really don’t have any idea. I have been paying more attention to figuring out which characters I like, than trying to solve the murders. lol

The commendation is my favorite moment in the book and a significant event in Merit’s life. She has finally come to terms that she is a Cadogan vampire. Were you surprised at all that Merit resisted Ethan’s call and that he made her a Sentinel? Do you think she’ll do well in this position? Why or why not?

I think she will kick butt in this position! She will particularly do well, because it is somewhat of an independent position. She gets to call the shots, which is something she loves. I wasn’t surprised at all that she was able to resist Ethan’s call. Merit is really strong, and I have a feeling we don’t even know half of what she is capable of. I’m not sure why she has all these powers, but I can’t wait to find out.

Loyalty is a reoccurring theme throughout the book and much of this series. Why is it so important to Ethan that he needs Merit’s allegiance? Is it solely a Master and Sentinel thing or does it imply something else?
I think he definitely implies something else. He knows that she is strong and special, so im sure that is part of it but I don’t think that is close to the whole reason. It is no secret that Ethan wants Merit. I think he also wants her to be “claimed” so that she is hands off for everyone else. Plus, he does not like to be turned down, so im sure that factors into it too.

If you had the opportunity to sit down with Ethan, Merit, Mallory, and Catcher for a bite to eat like in the beginning of Chapter 12, what questions would you ask them at this point of the story?

Merit- what is your favorite food?

Mallory- why do you put up such a fight with catcher? it has to get old at some point.

catcher- its not so much a question, but I think I might slip him my number. Shh don’t tell mallory.

Ethan- I would want to know if there is a nicer vampire underneath the surface, or is what we see really what we get?

  1. Trust is really important to me too and a deal breaker. I found it hard to trust Ethan for about the first three books but once I got to know him better he’s much more easily to like. LOL, on passing Catcher your number!

  2. I’m with you in the skepticism of the rogue vampire angle. For all this talk about their threat, we haven’t seen any personally. And I think if they were going to play this big a part in the book we would have met someone already…at least an anonymous first person point of view.

And good question to Ethan. I’d like to know how much of what we see is real? and how much is just a veneer hiding something more human…
