Percy Jackson’s seventh-grade year has been surprisingly quiet. Not a single monster has set foot on his New York prep-school campus. But when an innocent game of dodgeball among Percy and his classmates turns into a death match against an ugly gang of cannibal giants, things get . . . well, ugly. And the unexpected arrival of Percy’s friend Annabeth brings more bad news: the magical borders that protect Camp Half-Blood have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and unless a cure is found, the only safe haven for demigods will be destroyed.
In this fresh, funny, and hugely anticipated follow up to The Lightning Thief, Percy and his friends must journey into the Sea of Monsters to save their beloved camp. But first, Percy will discover a stunning new secret about his family — one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon’s son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.
This book made me want to break out my copy of the Odyssey so bad! I am loving mythology right now, and this is a great depiction of it.
I love Tyson! He was so adorable and loyal, I can’t wait to see more of him! He loves Percy so much, and I think it really was good for Percy to be around Tyson, and have him as his “brother”. I will admit that I was disappointed in Percy when he was getting annoyed at Tyson and treating him poorly when they got to camp half blood, and then I remembered that Percy is a 13 year old boy. I had completely forgotten they were so young! This just goes to show how mature they act in most of the book, which I like.
The plot in this book was really great too. It was lots of adventure and very fast paced. Anyone that likes the Odyssey will really enjoy this book, because Percy visits some of the same places and people that Odysseus did.
I am really liking this series and I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next. Not much of the main series storyline happened in this book, because this installment was about saving camp half blood.
I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next and I hope the next book has another trip to the underworld. (as a side note: I love that mount Olympus is in New York City and the underworld is in LA)
5/5 Gavels.
