SYNOPSIS:

It’s too hot to get out of Hell’s Kitchen.

It seemed like a brilliant idea at the time. After inheriting her grandmother’s old cookbook, Helena decided to throw a dinner party for the ages, inviting her friends and even her boss! Then everything went wrong. The stove caught fire. The cat stole one of her filets. She even bit her tongue!

And now her dinner plans could not be any more ruined because she’s accidentally summoned a demon. Now everything is going… right? The dinner was amazing, her friends are thrilled, and her boss would like to talk to her about a promotion! And of course, she would never be so foolish as to again summon the demon….

Review:

Cookbooks and Demons was such a fun and charming cozy paranormal romance. I have really been enjoying the cozy fantasy genre lately and this book is perfect for readers who are looking for fun grumpy sunshine paranormal romance. I loved that it was centered around cooking, which I think makes it the perfect read for the holiday season. It certainly made me hungry while I was reading it.

Helena accidentally summons a demon while hosting a dinner party and when he helped turn the party into a hit, Helena decides to try her luck with Rafferty again. Super cute read. I enjoyed this one.

I am in Florida so we have quite a few Hurricanes, and some times some sink holes around the state.

QOTD: What is the last series you finished?

The epic conclusion of Eira’s journey of love, loss, and power.

A pirate does not ask…they take.

I absolutely loved the A Trial of Sorcerers series. This was the last installment and I am so sad that the series is done, but I loved the conclusion. There are some things left up in the air, but it works with the story. This series is perfect for readers who love stories involving: sorcerer competitions, slow-burn romance, adventures to distant lands, pirates, good triumphing over evil, and elemental magic.

This is a series that must be read in order, and we pick up right where book 4 left off. I felt like we had our foot to the gas pedal for the entire story. There is so much happening, in the best way! I love Eira as a character and I loved watching her really come into her own in ways that I don’t think she ever could have anticipated from where she started in book1. This was really a wild journey for her.

I can’t recommend this series enough. If you are looking for an epic quest/adventure style fantasy, you need to check out A Trial of Sorcerers. Elise Kova does a fantastic job with this story, these characters and her epic fantasy worldbuilding is brilliant. A fantastic series!

Mine was good. It was productive but not too busy. And we worked on our christmas decorations. I’ve got the Halloween library all cleaned up and I am going to start working on my christmas library this week (hopefully) I still need to get some garland for it, but let me know if you have any other bookish christmas ideas I can incorporate.

Today I am sharing a review of Reign of Cinders and Glass with you.

Reign of Cinders and Glass is the first in the adult fantasy Fated Fairytales series by author Linsey Hall and Veronica Douglas. This adult Cinderella retelling was an intriguing mix of some themes we know and love from the classic Cinderella tale and a great mix of fresh and different elements woven into the story- Vampires and spies! It was so interesting.

In Reign of Cinders and Glass we meet Ella and Prince Cassius. I loved both of them. They had fantastic chemistry. Everything about their story pulled me in. Once I picked up this book, I did not want to put it down! I love retellings, and this was a great one. Really great, strong characters, the writing is captivating, the world is easy to fall into and the romance is so much fun! I loved it and I can’t wait to see what Fated Fairytale we are going to get to see next. This book was a hit!

Creatures of Chaos was FANTASTIC! I loved this book so much! I listened to the audiobook version and the narration was wonderful as well. There are lots of supernatural creatures in this world, and they can enter the chaos trials- a deadly competition where the winner gets a super powerful dagger. Our main character Locklyn does not have any power, so entering a competition against some of the strongest supernatural beings does not seem like a smart move for her, but watching her in the trials was riveting for me. Locklyn was such an easy person to root for, and I also quite enjoyed the love triangle that was presented.

Creatures of Chaos is a book that has everything I love- a great plot that keeps moving at a brisk pace, easy worldbuilding, plenty of twists and turns and great characters. There is no spice, but I can’t wait to see where the romance goes in the next book. Overall, I could not stop listening to this book. I loved every single second of it. I can’t wait for the next book. I need it in my grubby little hands right now!

House of the Raven is the first book in the The Eldrystone series by author Ingrid Seymour. This was a slow burn enemies to lovers fantasy with a light romance. The world building was the star of this book for me. It was wonderfully described and a great unique world. There is also strong character growth with Valeria. I enjoyed watching her come into her own during the journey.

In addition to our main characters, there are also some really fun side characters. Val’s cousin, Jago was my favorite character in the book! He is great comic relief from some of the book’s tenser moments.

The romance in this book is pretty light, but there may be more in the second book. I would say this is more for plot based readers who like great world building and an interesting magic system. I think if the romance expands in the next installment, it will grab more attention from romantasy fans. I am intrigued by the world and magic system and am interested to see where the series is going to take us next.

QOTD: What is the best Halloween costume you have ever seen?

Be Careful what you wish for.

Wish is the first book of the Onyx Mist series, which is a dark fantasy. I really enjoyed this book, and I was pleasantly surprised by how dark and rage filled the emotions in this story felt. I could feel Mora’s hate and anger leaping off the page, which is a testament to how good the writing is. This is an excellent debut novel from Sara Flanagan.

Mora is cursed to be bound to a bottle, and is forced to grant the bottle holder three wishes. She has been cursed for hundreds of years, and to say she is bitter and resentful of this is an understatement. If you like villainous main characters, then you will really appreciate Mora. (though the actual villain in the story is so much worse!)

Once Zadriel entered the scene, I was totally enraptured by this story. I loved the world, I loved the writing and I loved the plot. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen next, Sara switched things up on us. Some of the twists and turns really took me by surprise and I love it when that happens. This was an excellent first installment to what looks like it will be a deliciously dark fantasy romance. I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one!
