Publisher: William Morrow
Pub. Date: September 17, 2013
Pages: 371
Age Group: New Adult
Series: A little too Far #1

Synopsis:

Have you ever gone just a little too far?

Lexie Banks has.

Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years … and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome.

But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt … and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the-eyes deacon … only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way.
“More than a ridiculously sexy, HOT read, Desrochers takes you on a wild ride of self-discovery and bittersweet romance.”

How to write the perfectly flawed (realistic) character
by Lisa Desrochers

To take a line out of my main character in A LITTLE TOO MUCH’s (book 2) mouth, “Everybody has sh*t they need to deal with.” All of my characters have major flaws, because that’s reality.

Ask yourself a couple of questions: When was the last time you made a bad decision? Did you think it was a bad decision when you made it?

Everyone’s dealing with stuff, and some people deal better than others. The things we’ve been through and the things we’re dealing with in the moment are going to affect every decision we make and every reaction we have. Life is perception, and our perceptions, hopes, fears, and life experiences all play into what we’re going to do in any given situation. These are the reasons for yours, mine, and any good character’s flaws. You have to know your character well enough to describe on the page what those things are for him/her in a relatable way. You have to know how they’ll react and why. And when they screw up because of the way they react (which they will) you have to be realistic about the consequences and how they’ll deal with those. They’re going to make mistakes. Big ones. Most likely, they’re going to justify the decisions that lead to the mistake to themselves, not only in the decision making process, but as the action is taking place, and as the consequences start crashing down on their heads. The great thing about writing is, when you’re in a character’s head, you can communicate all that through inner dialogue. The key is to make the flaws relatable and empathizable.

Other books in the series:
A LITTLE TOO MUCH (A companion novel coming November 12, 2013)

  1. Hey lady! Gosh why haven’t I been over here? Hope you are doing great! Busy as always on my end. This sounds like an interesting read and I have been wanting to try out one of Lisa’s books. Of course I have made plenty of bad decisions, who doesn’t? But I can thankfully say I have never gone too far and gotten into something awful, knock on wood!

  2. Bwahahaha ….. oh I love the sound of Lexie. Hell yeah, I’ve gone to far when I was younger. I usually knew it but didn’t care. I mean, I didn’t kill anyone or anything, but had way too much fun that could’ve ended badly. An boys … oh the boys.

How did the bar exam go, Michelle? I’ve been out of the blogging loop lately and don’t know what all is going on with everyone.
