Summary:

Gemma Hart never knows when her father is going to whisk her back in time. Her toes start tingling and she has a few minutes to find a secret haven where she can disintegrate and appear in another time and place. While “across the line,” her training and skills are put to the test as she completes a mission that will change history for the lucky few her father has selected.
Gemma’s parents are adamant that secrecy is paramount to her family’s safety. If people knew what they were capable of, they could be “used and abused”, as her mother always says. Afraid she might accidentally utter the truth and break the ancient oath of her people, Gemma spends her school days as a loner. Only one thing can throw her sheltered life askew… Harrison Granger.
Harrison never expected to talk to the strange Hart girl, but after a brief encounter he can’t stop thinking about her. He begins a campaign to chisel away her icy veneer and is met with unexpected consequences. As he slowly wins this girl over, he enters a surreal world that has him fighting to keep his newfound love and his life

This book was awesome! I’m so happy that I have the next book, Black Blood, so that I can start reading it as soon as I get a chance! I would have been so sad if I had to wait to get the next book, that’s how much I enjoyed this book.

Gemma and Harrison are super cute together. Harrison may be a little cheesy at times, but strangely enough it really works for him. He comes off as cute and in love, and it’s impossible not to root for the two of them. Gemma has to be so cold aloof towards people. It broke my heart seeing her so alone. And then comes adorable Harrison, who has moved all over the place and becomes captivated by beautiful Gemma. But what I liked the most, was that it wasn’t just a shallow at first glance attraction. He really liked her. One of my favorite parts of the book, was when Harrison was trying to convince his mom that it was just a light and fun fling and he mom said- “that’s not you Harrison, you are all or nothing.” That sums him up perfectly! He is super loyal and always in 100%. I loved that about him. That is honestly a very rare and noble trait, in my opinion. There should be more people as loyal as Harrison.

I can’t wait to see what is going on with Gemma’s dad exactly. Something just does not sit right with me where he is concerned. I hope to explore that more in the next book. Plus you have the strange fire that Gemma and Harrison have, and why does he move around so much? There is some mystery there, I just know it! And I can’t wait to find out what it is. This trilogy is going to be awesome!

I also really liked that the book didn’t jump right into the time travel right away. It’s in the description of the book, so you know it’s going to be there, but Melissa Pearl takes her time and really develops the characters before getting into that part of the story. I really appreciated that. I became so invested in Gemma’s life that I felt like I was struggling right there beside her. That is the mark of good writing. Melissa Pearl just write characters that you can’t help but sympathize with and like. Golden Blood is a great book, and a wonderful start to what im sure is going to be a very exciting trilogy.

  1. Hadn’t heard of this before! Great review I love it when they take time to introduce the characters and make them 3 dimensional instead of jumping right in the plot and make you not really care what happens.

  2. Ok sorry try again, take two. Loved all your gushing about Hrrison, he sounds adorable, even if he is cheesy at times. That line from his mother was great. I have not heard of this book, so I am happily entering your giveaway. Thanks for sharing Michele.

  3. Uww, never heard of this book before! After reading your review I will definitely be putting it on my to-read list!
The romance sounds so sweet. >.<
I wouldn’t mind a ‘Harrison’ myself… Hard to find that kind of guys nowadays.. 😛

I don’t usually read time-travel books, maybe because there aren’t so many of them as other sub-genres, maybe because it’s not often done well. What nearly had me sold on wanting this book was that it is actual romance and not just lust(love)-at-first-sight. And my goodness; it’s a trilogy!!! Trilogies are perfect- not too many, not too few! The basic idea and plot for the book sounds interesting, so I hope I win; I really want to read this!

It’s a great looking book. I’m reading more and more young adult/teen these days, and I hadn’t heard of this until I signed on here. So great giveaway, I hope I win. If not, no worry, I will be back to see what you’re reading and rating.

  6. I love starting a series when you know book two is already available LOL I am with you there. I love a good time-travel and the addition of the spiritual element makes this sound great. Thank you for your review and for the lovely giveaway opportunity.

  7. I haveb; heard of this book before, but I am always looking for books with well-developed characters which is a rarity…or I am just not looking in the right places.
I think there’s a fine line between character development and dragging the intro out too long.

I will definitely be following Melissa’s blog tour!
