The main character, Paul, does remind me a lot of Holden Caulfield from the Catcher in the Rye. And trust me, this is a great comparison in my book. I loved reading through Paul’s perspective. I also really liked how the book was split up into different parts, each from a different person’s perspective. Each time the person changed, the book also shifted in some big way. This made reading Fade always interesting. It kept you on your toes, never allowing you to get bored or think you know what is going to happen next. I really liked how everything ended, even though it was a very enigmatic ending- it was very fitting with the style of the book. Does the Fade exist? I felt like it was kind of like the ending to the movie Inception for me. And if I remember correctly (it was a long time ago) there was also a similar twist at the end of I am the cheese, that totally took me by surprise when I read it in 7th grade.
I’m glad that I gave this book a chance. My sister wanted me to read it because she really liked it. And my sister is not a reader, so for her to enjoy a book it must be something pretty special. So I gave it a shot, and I am super happy that I did. This book was very unique, and unlike most of the things that I have read. I am definitely going to read some of his other books, because I am loving his writing style and his imagination. He is a great author!
4/5 Gavels.
