{Release Day Review+Giveaway} Duels and Deception by @CindyAnstey @Swoonreads

{Release Day Review+Giveaway} Duels and Deception by @CindyAnstey @Swoonreads

Cindy Anstey has done it again! Love, Lies and Spies was one of my favorite books of 2016. And now Duels and Deception is one of my favorite reads of 2017! I just love Cindy’s books. Duels and Deception is a companion novel, set in the same time period as Love Lies and Spies. So while you do not need to read Love Lies and Spies to understand Duels and Deception, both of these books are seriously so good that you need to read both. Trust me on that one! Duels and Deception is a young adult historical romance by Cindy Anstey. Young Adult historical is a genre that I don’t read too much of…not because I don’t enjoy it. When it is is well done, I love it. But I am super picky when it comes to the writing and world building in my historical books. And Cindy Anstey has the historical writing IT FACTOR in spades. I felt like I was reading a young adult Oscar Wilde. Cindy is… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones

{Review+Giveaway} Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones

Wintersong is a young adult magical fantasy by S. Jae-Jones. Wintersong is the story of the Goblin king. It is also a retelling of Labyrinth, but I know very little of that story so I can’t really speak on how good or bad of a retelling it was in that regard. But I can tell you that this was an enjoyable story with lots of music woven in. I liked the musical elements of the tale best. Overall, I found this story to be lacking…something…but I don’t really know exactly what it was. I’m not really sure it was that was holding me back from going from like to love with this one, but it was something. Overall though, Wintersong was a good read. I enjoyed it. Wintersong is the story of the Goblin King and Liesl. I loved the musical feel of the writing. Music plays a big part in the storyline of Wintersong but it also played a part in the flow of the story. Author S. Jae-Jones… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Blood Rose Rebellion by @RosalynEves @KnopfBFYR ‏@TheNovl

{Review+Giveaway} Blood Rose Rebellion by @RosalynEves @KnopfBFYR ‏@TheNovl

Blood Rose Rebellion is the first book in the young adult fantasy series by the same name. It is also author Rosalyn Eves debut novel, which really impressed me. Blood Rose Rebellion was an excellent read for me, and I can’t wait to journey back into this crazy world. I loved the fantasy elements a little more than the romance elements but I have a feeling book two will change my mind. I think this is a romance that is going to get better and better with each book, now that the foundation has been laid for the characters and the story. Blood Rose Rebellion tells the story of young Anna. Anna is a member of a high class Luminate family. Luminate meaning they are the wielders of magic in this world. Only Anna is barren, she can’t wield magic. But she does seem to mess up people’s spells when she is around. I loved this premise. I found it to be a breath of fresh air from the norm of magic… Read more »

{Review} There’s Something About Nik by Sara Hantz

{Review} There’s Something About Nik by Sara Hantz

There’s Something About Nik by Sara Hantz is a young adult contemporary romance. It’s about an undercover prince and I have had such great success with the Entangled crush line that I so wanted to love this one. I really really did. But it just didn’t work for me. I’m not really sure why. Sara Hantz did a fine job with the writing, and I wouldn’t be opposed to reading another one of her books, but this plot wasn’t for me. And that is ok. If you think you would love a book about a mysterious guy who is really a prince, you should check out some of the reviews I have linked below. Lot’s of people really enjoyed this book. There’s Something about Nik is the story of Nik and Amber. Nik comes to an american boarding school and he is so clearly hiding a secret. And honestly, I liked Nik for the most part. I hated how everyone treated him. I mean they were all huge jerks and… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Traveler by @LE_DeLano @SwoonReads

{Review+Giveaway} Traveler by @LE_DeLano @SwoonReads

Traveler is the first book in the young adult science fiction/time travel series by the same name from author L. E. Delano. This is L. E. Delano’s first book. I really loved this story. I found it to be a really cool concept that I think will be even more fleshed out in the upcoming books. So you can imagine my surprise when I head over to goodreads and I start seeing some two star reviews. I was shocked in fact. But that just goes to show that different books will work out differently for different people. Traveler is the story of Jessa and Finn. And bear with me, because while this review is not necessarily spoilery, it does explain the concept of the book because I think the concept is so freakin’ cool!  Jessa is just this normal girl until the guy that she has been seeing in all of her dreams shows up in real life and tells her that she is in danger. And things are just… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Swinging At Love by @KendraHighley @entangledteen

{Review+Giveaway} Swinging At Love by @KendraHighley @entangledteen

Swinging at Love is the second book in the young adult contemporary romance series, called the Suttonville Senitels by Kendra C. Highley. I was so excited when I found out about this book. Seriously. I read and LOVED The Bad Boy Bargain and I thought it was just going to be a standalone, so when I found out it was going to be a series centering around a baseball team. I thoroughly enjoyed Swinging at Love. Just as much as The Bad Boy Bargain. This series is a welcome smash hit for me! Lately I have been finding myself gravitating more towards New Adult for my contemporary romances, and young adult for my fantasies. Oftentimes I am finding young adult contemporaries just a bit too immature in the characters. But the big exception to this seems to be the Entangled Crush line. I really enjoy their YA romances for the most part. (And I don’t think that just because a book is young adult that the characters get a free pass on… Read more »

{Review} Garden of Thorns by Amber Mitchell

{Review} Garden of Thorns by Amber Mitchell

Garden of Thorns is a young adult fantasy by Amber Mitchell. I love the concept behind this book. The Garden is a captivity like setting where girls are taken and forced to join a burlesque type troop and perform. The main character Rose escapes and immediately tangled with a group of rebels. They take off on an adventure with differing end goals. I really liked the concept of Garden of Thorns, but the book ended up being just ok. Plus, I do have to point out how beautiful the cover is! I seriously love it! Rayce and Rose are the two main characters in this story, and while I liked them both well enough, something was missing for me. I’m not really sure what it is, and that is the frustrating part. I guess I was just wishing for more on all fronts. I wanted more description for sure. I was very unclear on a lot of aspects of the garden. Where did they get the girls from. Was it… Read more »

{Review+Kindle Fire Giveaway} Off the Ice by @JulieCross1980 @EntangledTEEN

{Review+Kindle Fire Giveaway} Off the Ice by @JulieCross1980 @EntangledTEEN

Off the Ice is the first book in the young adult Juniper Falls series by Julie Cross. I have read a bunch of Julie’s books, and I love how diverse of an author she is. She can write all genres and moods of stories. I really enjoyed Off the Ice and I can’t wait to continue on in the series. It was a bit more drama filled than I was expecting. This is not a super light and fluffy young adult contemporary. This story has some grit to it. Off The Ice is the story of Claire and Tate. I liked both Claire and Tate but it took me some time to warm up to them. I didn’t instantly fall in love with them. In fact, the whole story takes some time to warm up. Off the Ice has a slower, more deliberate pace than some of Julie’s other stories. I could even see this story appealing to both young adult and new adult fans. It is upper young adult… Read more »
