{Review+Giveaway} THE VINE WITCH by Luanne G. Smith @writersmith1

{Review+Giveaway} THE VINE WITCH by Luanne G. Smith @writersmith1

The Vine Witch is a paranormal fantasy by author Luanne G. Smith. It is the first book in the Vine Witch series, and I had a blast reading it. The Vine Witch takes on witches and magic and creates a world that is honestly unlike anything else in this genre that I have ever encountered. And that is no easy feat. The Vine Witch is a magical read, and I can’t wait for the second book in this series, called The Glamourist, which is set to release in June 2020. In the Vine Witch, we meet our main character Elena. But when we first meet her, she is a toad I know, strange right? I was feeling a bit confused at the start of the story, but pretty quickly we watch her turn back into a woman, and we learn that she has been under a powerful curse for quite some time. And the world that Elena is introduced back into, is not the same world that she left behind. … Read more »

So read on for my honest thoughts on the book and then be sure to enter the giveaway at the bottom of the post! You have no idea how excited I was to see that not only was Hocus Pocus being made into a novel, but also learning there was going to be a sequel. Hocus Pocus is still one of my all time favorite Halloween movies. I watch it every single year in October. I know I am not the only one who loves belting out “I’ve put a spell on you!” And Thackery Binx is one of my favorite feline characters ever! So to find out I was going to get to relive Hocus Pocus in novel form, I was all in! And I am happy to report that this book did not disappoint. Hocus Pocus and the All New Sequel is split into two parts…. Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Rise by Sierra Cross

{Review+Giveaway} Rise by Sierra Cross

Rise is the first book in the new adult Coven of Fire series by author Sierra Cross. It has been some time since I have read an urban fantasy and even longer since I have read an urban fantasy featuring witches, so I was really pumped to read Rise. I love new adult books that are in the fantasy and paranormal genres because there don’t seem to be too many of them. Rise did not disappoint. I enjoyed this read from start to finish. There were a few slow sections of the book, but overall, I flew through this novel and I am anxiously awaiting the second book, which is already out. In fact, the first four books were all released in 2017, which is crazy! You go Sierra Cross! Book 5 is due to come out this year. Rise follows our main characters, Alix, Callie, Matt, with some great secondary characters as well. I really enjoyed how many people were showcased in such a short book. I think that… Read more »

{ARC Review+Giveaway} Witchtown by @CoryPutmanOakes @HMHTeen

{ARC Review+Giveaway} Witchtown by @CoryPutmanOakes @HMHTeen

Witchtown is a standalone young adult supernatural by author Cory Putman Oakes. I think Witchtown would appeal to both young adult readers as well as middle grade readers. It is young adult, but it is on the younger end and the romance is very light and age appropriate, so all ages of witchy fans can enjoy Witchtown. This is the first book I have read from Mrs. Oakes and I have to say I really, really enjoyed it. I completely forgot that this book was going to be about a mother daughter con team. (very light emphasis on the word team.) Does that ever happen to you? I read the summary a while ago when I decided to sign up for the blog tour, and then forgot all about it until I picked up the book to read it for my review. And I never go back and read the summaries. It is more fun for me that way. So I was super excited when I saw that Macie and… Read more »

{Series Review} Sweep by Cate Tiernan

{Series Review} Sweep by Cate Tiernan

In honor of Halloween, I decided to dust off an old witch series and do a review of the entire series. There are 15 books in the Sweep series by Cate Tiernan. I started reading the Sweep series probably about 6 or 7 years ago (before my blog) when my Borders was going out of business. They had the first three bind up volumes for next to nothing so I grabbed books #1-9 (there are 3 books in each bind up) for I think $5-6 total. Once I started reading I really got into the witchy atmosphere and elemental vibe of the magic in Sweep, so I went back to Borders and grabbed the rest of the books that were out. Books 10-15 I had to get individual novels because their bind up wasn’t out yet, and consequently my series doesn’t match, which makes me kind of mad. The Sweep series started out really strong. I read the first 4 books in no time at all and I couldn’t get… Read more »

{ARC Review} Trial By Fire by Josephine Angelini @josieangelini

{ARC Review} Trial By Fire by Josephine Angelini @josieangelini

Trial by Fire is a book filled with so many awesome elements. Not only are the characters fantastic, but the plot is original and the concept is thought provoking and utterly cool! It reminded me on an episode of the Big Bang theory where Sheldon is talking about an infinite number of universes and an Infinite number of different Sheldons. That is the world you get introduced to in Trial by Fire. Lily Proctor is in our world, and then she isn’t. She is taken to a different world where a bunch of people are familiar to her, but everything else is so very different. Magic exists and witches rule. But that is only the beginning. Josephine Angelini does an incredible job of blending science with magic. These are witches, or crucibles as they are called, like I have never seen them before. I love that their magic stems from converting elements and substances that they take in from their surroundings. The book starts out in our world, but Lily… Read more »

{Interview} Author Amanda Burke

{Interview} Author Amanda Burke

I have the author of the YA paranormal, Ruby, Amanda Burke here for an interview. Thank you for joining us at Book Briefs today!   1. Describe Ruby in a tweet. (140 characters or less) Ruby’s story begins during the Salem witch hunts then jumps to present day. Three witches, each with her own story then the fourth book which unites them. 2. How did you know that you wanted to become a writer? Writing was always my strength in high school. About five years ago I decided to see if I could turn any of the myriad of ideas in my head into something worth reading. I haven’t looked back since. 3. Who is our favorite character that you have written so far and why?  Gosh, that’s like asking to pick a favourite child. However, at a push I’d HAVE to choose two. Ruby because she’s a strong female yet decent at the same time. Plus she’s also a white witch with incredible powers and who wouldn’t want to… Read more »
