{Interview+ #KindleFire HD Giveaway} The Sword and Its Servant by @VictorASalinas

Today I have a pretty exciting post to share. I have author, Victor Salinas here to answer some questions about his dark young adult fantasy series Grauwelt. The first book, The Sword and its Servant was released last year and to celebrate the series, they are hosting a fabulous giveaway exclusive to readers at Book Briefs. 1. What is the Grauwelt Series about? The series is about a great many things: life and death, freedom and rebellion, and choosing between individual fulfillment and the will of others. The Grauwelt series tells the tale of a teenage girl named Einsa who has no memories of her past. She had lived the entire life she remembers in a dark prison, held captive by a wicked species of creatures known as the Löwa. Einsa and a few of her cohorts decide to make a break for it… but it’s a lot harder and more dangerous than they realized. The Sword and Its Servant is the first installment of the multi-part Young Adult fantasy… Read more »

{ARC Review+Interview+Giveaway} Paradise City by @CJ_Duggan @HachetteAus

{ARC Review+Interview+Giveaway} Paradise City by @CJ_Duggan @HachetteAus

Describe Paradise City in a tweet (140 characters or less). Paradise City is quintessentially Australian, heavily focused on family, friendships, love and pushing the limits. A sexy, sassy and witty character novel with plenty of twists and turns. What are some traits that you look for in your book boyfriends? There has to be an element of intrigue; discovering who they are is half the fun. Always love a character who can banter with a leading lady, and have amazing tension. Someone who is a strong, loyal male without being an Alpha jerk, because you know what? Sometimes the nice guy does get the girl. What are some of your favourite trends in YA right now? Dystopian, Paranormal, Contemp, Coming of Age: it all depends on my mood but I love them all and like to think that there is always something available for no matter what mood I am in, as long as there is a hint of romance. I adore a variety of YA. Which of your characters… Read more »

{Interview+Giveaway} Painted Maidens Trilogy by Terra Harmony @harmonygirlit

{Interview+Giveaway} Painted Maidens Trilogy by Terra Harmony @harmonygirlit

How would you describe The Painted Maidens books? This is a three book, young adult fantasy series. Eco-fantasy, actually. There is plenty of action, some gore, some romance (which gets steamier as the series goes on), and it is definitely unique to anything you’ve read before. A young maiden (the youngest of her species, actually), Serena, is caught going beyond the borders of her kingdom to The Dry. As punishment, she is assigned to be the Werewolf Liaison which puts her in The Dry semi-permanently. She must contend with the hostile werewolf clan that has a long-standing, bloody history with the maidens. There are plenty of twists along the way and I have to say this might be suited toward those that enjoy the dark fantasy genre. How did you come up with the idea for the series? Really I just wanted to write about dragons. I still kind of do but I might be over the whole ‘scaly creatures’ thing by now. As I was running through dragon imagery… Read more »

{Interview+Quiz+Giveaway} Numbers Game by @RebeccaRode

Check out this cool Numbers Game Quiz Here: https://www.playbuzz.com/authorrebeccarode10/what-is-your-numbers-game-rating%EF%BB%BF Q: Will you tell us about Numbers Game? A: Absolutely! In the New Order Republic of America, 16-year-olds are given a Rating, a number that encompasses what they’re worth to society. It determines their career, living conditions, and potential partners. This is the story of Treena, who gets a different Rating than the one she earned. She decides to fight for what is rightfully hers, determined to get her boyfriend back in the process. Meanwhile, she meets Vance, a mysterious prisoner-turned-soldier who has his own agenda. When someone tries to kill Treena—twice—they uncover a dark conspiracy that risks much more than Treena’s Rating. Q: Great. You probably get this question a lot, but the concept is so unique that I have to ask—where did you get the idea for Numbers Game? A: I love this question! My husband sent me to the bank to finalize the loan on the truck he was buying. I looked at my credit score and thought… Read more »

{Interview+Giveaway} Twisted by Holly Hook @hollyannehook

{Interview+Giveaway} Twisted by Holly Hook @hollyannehook

Twisted is the first book of the Deathwind Trilogy, a new young adult and teen paranormal romance series. The second book, Torn, is also available. Book Three of the Deathwind Trilogy, Unleashed, will be released in Summer of 2015. 1. Describe Twisted in a Tweet. (140 characters or less) Allie’s tornado chasing trip changes her forever in a way she never expected… 2. What kind of research did you do in preparation of Twisted? I watched lots and lots of tornado videos on Youtube and of course read everything I could about these storms.  I’ve always had a fascination with tornadoes which helped me begin the book in the first place. 3. Tornado Chasing is kind of a “daredevil” type hobby. Are you a daredevil as well or more cautious? It depends.  A big part of me would like to try that.  However, I’m scared to death of icy roads and get sick at the thought of driving on them. 4. What were some of your favorite YA books from… Read more »

{Interview+Giveaway} Sanyare: The Last Descendant by @MeganPHaskell

{Interview+Giveaway} Sanyare: The Last Descendant by @MeganPHaskell

1. Describe your book in a tweet. (140 characters or less) Choice: make friends with the enemy dark elves or be executed for treason. She’s innocent, but Rie must break the law to prove it. 2. Do you have a specific writing style?  I’m not sure you’d call it a style, so much as a philosophy. In Sanyare, I tried to create a fantasy world where real people could live, work, and breathe. My protagonist is grounded in the daily life of the realms, and I’ve tried to incorporate some of the economic realities of the different worlds. But with all of that, I think my writing is tight and concise. I don’t waste words and I keep the story moving. 3. What were the challenges (research, literary, psychological, and logistical) in bringing it to life?  The short answer is time. I’m a stay at home mom, so writing Sanyare took a long time. You’ll often hear advice from indie authors who say you should write fast and publish often… Read more »

{Interview+Giveaway} Watched by CJ Lyons @SourcebooksFire

{Interview+Giveaway} Watched by CJ Lyons @SourcebooksFire

Describe Watched in a tweet (140 characters or less) CJ: Teens blackmailed by cyberpredator with no hope of fighting back–unless they fight together What are some of your favorite thrillers? CJ: Too many to count! But two of my favorites feature teens who become empowered through their struggles: John Hart’s Last Child and Elizabeth Wein’s Code Name Verity. What kind of research did you do while writing Watched? CJ: The research for Watched was wide-flung, everything from what the steering wheel of a vintage Austin-Healy looked like and how the doors opened; to the psychology behind teen self-harm, agoraphobia, pedophilia, psychopathy, stalkers, and arson; methods of arsonists; how cyberpredators work (including reviewing actual case records and transcripts from federal agents I interviewed); and reviewing dozens of real life cases of teens victimized by cyberpredators and cappers. What is your favorite part about writing a thriller? What is the hardest for you? CJ: My favorite part is the ending—I often write the climax first. I love bringing all the loose threads… Read more »

{Review+Interview+Giveaway} Indiscretion by @1ElisabethGrace

{Review+Interview+Giveaway} Indiscretion by @1ElisabethGrace

This review is for volumes 1 and 2 of the New Adult Serial Romance- Indiscretion. I have had some meh experiences with novellas and short stories lately. I kept picking up shorts that were not well developed, utterly rushed and just weren’t grabbing my attention. But I just needed the fabulous Elisabeth Grace to restore my faith in the novella. And Serial novellas are my favorite kind of short story. I am absolutely LOVING Indiscretion. I just got my copy of volume 3 yesterday and I am already itching to put aside my current book to read it. The chemistry between Chloe and Max sizzles and jumps off the page. I know the deal between them is no strings attached and just something casual, but the way they are around each other is surprisingly tender and beyond wonderful. I am always so blown away with what Elisabeth Grace is able to do with her characters. And what she is able to do in just 70 or so pages in incredible!… Read more »

{Interview+Excerpt+Giveaway} Beyond The Pale: Dark YA Fantasy Anthology @Nimpentoad

Today I have Henry Herz, the editor of Beyond the Pale here with us on Book Briefs. Welcome Henry! 1. Describe Beyond the Pale in a Tweet (140 characters or less) BEYOND THE PALE is an anthology of dark/urban fantasy & paranormal stories by master authors like Beagle, Butcher, Brewer, Garcia & Yolen.  2. What are some of challenges of putting together an Anthology? You have to select a theme. Then you have to decide which authors to invite. Then you have to convince them to participate. Then you have to see if they have a story that both matches the theme AND is available for use. Then you have to negotiate contracts. Then you have to acquire, edit, and format the stories. Then you have to coordinate the authors’ PR teams in promoting the book. “Herding cats” is the short version. Lots of work, but lots of fun.   3. What makes Beyond the Pale unique? Without question, my favorite aspect of BEYOND THE PALE is the stellar cast… Read more »
