{Re-Review+Excerpt+Giveaway} Slumber by Christy Sloat

{Re-Review+Excerpt+Giveaway} Slumber by Christy Sloat

I read Slumber when it was previously released but it has since gotten a new cover, and I believe the book has been reworked a bit! Today I am sharing the new cover of Slumber, which I absolutely love! It is a big upgrade in my opinion, as well as my thoughts on the book, an excerpt and a giveaway for a new finished copy of Slumber! Slumber is the first book in the young adult Slumber Duology by Christy Sloat. I liked Slumber, but in the end it was just an ok read for me. Slumber is a fairy tale re-telling and I loved the twist that author Christy Sloat took on the tale. It is the story of sleeping beauty but it takes place in Spindle Ridge Asylum for the Criminally Insane, where they have convinced the princess that she murdered her boyfriend. Interesting starting point, right? I thought so too, and the idea behind the story I still think is great. I think it would be better suited for younger,… Read more »

Slumber is a fairy tale re-telling and I loved the twist that author Christy Sloat took on the tale. Interesting starting point, right? I thought so too, and the idea behind the story I still think is great. I think it would be better suited for younger, young adult readers as it is. It is a very quick, and enjoyable read, but it didn’t have the depth or development I was hoping it would. It does have one of the most gorgeous covers I have seen in a long time though. I still can’t stop staring at it. I liked the main character, Rory. I thought she was really interesting, and… Read more »

{Spoiler Free Review+Giveaway} Golden by Melinda Michaels @MJMichaelsBooks

{Spoiler Free Review+Giveaway} Golden by Melinda Michaels @MJMichaelsBooks

Golden is the first book in a young adult magical realism series, with each of the books also being loose retellings of fairy tales. Author Melinda Michaels describes the story that way, but what is really happening is that the world she has created takes place after the fairy tale stories have all played out. This world deals with the descendants of the fairy tale characters. And that is really all I am going to tell you about the plot of the book, because I think so much of the magic in Golden lies in the suspense and intrigue that Melinda Michaels is so great at weaving into her story. There are wonderfully complex characters that while they themselves divide each other into good and bad guys, they are each so much more complicated and faceted than that. The characters were a joy to read about. Some you will be able to predict and others throw everything on their head. The book starts out with the main character Hanna reeling… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Gathering Frost by Kaitlyn Davis @daviskaitlyn

{Review+Giveaway} Gathering Frost by Kaitlyn Davis @daviskaitlyn

Gathering Frost is the first book in the young adult fantasy series. The Series is called Once Upon a Curse, and each of the books are loosely based on fairy tale re-tellings. But let me tell you that if the rest of the books are anything like the first one, these are fairy tales that are twisted and turned in ways that you will not see coming. Gathering Frost is a re-telling of Sleeping Beauty, but there is no sleeping beauty in this tale. It is a waking curse placed on the heroine, who in the very first chapter claims that she is actually the bad guy? Sounds different than your average take, doesn’t it? It is! Gathering Frost seemed like Sleeping Beauty meets the Snow Queen meets the creativity that is Kaitlyn Davis’ mind. Jade is an interesting girl. I loved seeing the bland, emotionless shell that she was at the start of the book because it makes you appreciate the moments where the real Jade starts to peek… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} The Cinderella Theorem by Kristee Ravan

{Review+Giveaway} The Cinderella Theorem by Kristee Ravan

The Cinderella Theorem overall was a really great read. I had a few small issues with the book early, but they were minor things and I am so glad that I didn’t let them get in the way of enjoying the story, because this was a book that just kept getting better and better. I loved the concept of the story and the main character, Lily was a delight. Lily loves math, she likes logic and she likes being able to get the same answer every time she does the same problem. I loved her commentary throughout the story, told through math equations and footnotes. It was so funny. Lily Sparrow is just a normal high school student when she comes home on her 15th birthday to find out that her dad is not dead like she thought, but rather the ruler of a magical land where all fairy tale characters go to live out their “happily ever after”. A cool concept but it was in this initial phase that… Read more »
