{Review+Giveaway} Into the Fire by @AshelynDrake @month9books @chapterxchapter

Into the Fire is the first in a new young adult paranormal romance series written by Kelly Hashway writing as Ashelyn Drake. Kelly wrote a really nice note at the start of the book explaining that that because Into the Fire is equal parts paranormal and romance she is using both her paranormal writing name as well as her romance writing name. Seeing as I love both paranormal and romance books, her foreword made me even more excited for Into the Fire. I have not yet experienced a book where the main character is a phoenix. Basically, the only phoenix I was familiar with before was Fawkes. I think they are fascinating creatures and Ashelyn Drake did a great job making them her own in this book. Her Phoenixes get 5 lives, but the most important transition by far is between the first and second life for them. That is when they become a full phoenix and that is also the life where they forget everything about their first life. I am… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Boneseeker by Brynn Chapman @month9books @rrsmythe

I am a big fan of Sherlock Holmes. So when I saw a book about Sherlock’s daughter, who who wants to follow in her fathers deductive reasoning footsteps, I knew I had to read it. Plus throw in the fact that her specialty leads her to a job at a museum as a “purveyor of abnormal science” how could I pass it up?? Sherlock plus mystery plus just a touch of creepy and weird. That just sounds so good! And it was good! It was exactly as I expected it to be. There is plenty of good ole Sherlock snark and wit in Arabella, so I loved her right off the bat. She is not like other young women her age. And given that the book takes place in 1910, that is not necessarily a good thing. One of her oldest friends is the son of Dr. Watson- Henry. Henry is so smitten with Arabella, or as he calls her Bella. It was so adorable to watch how devoted and… Read more »

{Review +Giveaway} The Looking Glass by Jessica Arnold

{Review +Giveaway} The Looking Glass by Jessica Arnold

The Looking Glass is a really interesting take on a re-telling. The girls name is Alice, and she ends up on the other side of a mirror, but that is about where the similarities stop. Jessica Arnold has created a completely new, creepy, intriguing and utterly fascinating world in her spooky hotel. I loved watching Alice explore it, both through the diary she finds and through running from room to room. I felt Alice’s pressure the whole book, just hanging there in the air. I felt like I had to keep reading because if I didn’t then Alice would run out of time to figure out whatever she needed to figure out to get out of that house and back to the real hotel. I loved that she was transported to basically an alternate mirror world of the hotel where she was vacationing with her family. I will admit that I was kind of confused when I started reading the book, but this is the kind of book where you… Read more »
