{Interview+Giveaway} The Rising Series by Holly Kelly

{Interview+Giveaway} The Rising Series by Holly Kelly

1)   Why Mermaids/Mermen? I’ve always had a love for the ocean and had a fascination of the creatures that live within its depths. However, this book didn’t start with a lot of forethought. I was surfing online and came across—quite by accident—a picture of a mermaid with a flesh-colored tail. The thought hit me: what if a mermaid was born on land and she didn’t know she was a mermaid? She simply thought she was born horribly deformed. I started writing that same day. 2)   What kind of research did you have to do? I didn’t start out with any research under my belt. I would simply write until I came to a part where needed to know more about the mythological world. I then would do a search on the internet and find out what I needed to know. After the rough draft was written, I did read an in-depth book about Greek Mythology and made necessary changes. One thing I found in my research—Greek Mythology is filled with… Read more »

{Review} The Key by Jennifer Anne Davis @AuthorJennifer

{Review} The Key by Jennifer Anne Davis @AuthorJennifer

The Key is the first book in the True Reign series by Jennifer Anne Davis. The True Reign series is a young adult fantasy series. Jennifer Anne Davis’ Reign of Secrets series is my all time favorite young adult fantasy series. The Reign of Secrets series is the story of Princess Alyssa, which is the daughter of the couple in the True Reign series. So even though the two series can be read separately and can stand on their own, they are set in the same world and revolve around the same family of characters. I knew that because I am loving the Reign of Secrets series so much, I needed to read the True Reign trilogy. Plus, I knew I would love it as well because I am such a huge fan of Jennifer Anne Davis’ writing style. I am halfway through book two right now, and I am totally hooked. I love reading the story of Darmik and Rema, Alyssa’s parents. But in The Key, they are just… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Cage of Darkness by Jennifer Anne Davis @AuthorJennifer

*Please note: This is a series that must be read in order. If you are new to this fantastic series, check out the first book, Cage of Deceit!* Cage of Darkness by Jennifer Anne Davis is the second in a young adult series called the Reign of Secrets series. It is a young adult fantasy series that totally rocked my world! The first book, Cage of Deceit was my favorite books of 2015. And it continues to be one of my favorite fantasy series I have ever read. It is seriously that good.  As soon as I finished the first book, I was dying and I do mean dying to get my hands on the second book. So as soon as I got an advanced copy of Cage of Darkness, I immediately went on a binge read fest. I re-read book 1, and I loved it just as much as the first time reading it. And then I dove directly into book two. I loved the disclaimer that she put on page… Read more »

{ARC Review+Giveaway} Cage of Deceit by Jennifer Anne Davis @AuthorJennifer

Cage of Deceit by Jennifer Anne Davis is the first in a young adult series called the Reign of Secrets series. It is a young adult fantasy series that totally rocked my world! It is one of my favorite books of 2015. It might even take the top spot on my best of the best 2015 list. It was seriously that good. This is my first book I’ve read by Jennifer and I have to say, I will be reading many more. Not to mention I even dreamt about Cage of Deceit last night. I have been itching to read the second book. I loved the disclaimer that she put on page one, about the kind of book this is and the kind of book it is not. It is not a book that wraps up nice and neatly by itself. It is most definitely part of a series and there will be loose ends. You are warned. Allyssa is princess of Emperion, the biggest empire in the world. I… Read more »

{Review+Giveaway} Losing Logan by Sherry D. Ficklin

{Review+Giveaway} Losing Logan by Sherry D. Ficklin

Losing Logan made me feel so many different emotions while I was reading it. It was hilarious, sweet, heartwarming, and oh so sad. But even when it was sad, it was lovely. It’s funny- I thought I had escaped my sad quota for the day. I was supposed to see the fault in our stars, but after a series of rather unfortunate events my friends and I ended up seeing 22 Jump Street, which was pretty funny! And then I get home and read Losing Logan, and end up crying anyway! I loved the range of emotions that Losing Logan made me feel, and I can’t wait to read the prequel novella, Haunting Zoe. I think readers will love the great crew of characters that Sherry Ficklin has created in Losing Logan. Zoe and Logan used to be childhood friends, but as is often the case they grew up, changed a bit and high school sent them in different directions. Logan went straight for the cool crowd, jock and all…. Read more »
