Parker Breckinridge is a sophomore in college and already running her own internet cosmetics business. She doesn’t apologize for her successes—or anything else. She’s worked hard to get what where she is. She’s had to. It’s not like there was anything else in her life, despite her rich family.

Cade Adler doesn’t do relationships—especially relationships with uptight princesses. Been there. Done that. Destroyed the T-shirt. Besides, what with working full-time as a police officer and going to school, who has time for women? Not him.

With his tattoos and overall attitude, Cade is exactly what Parker doesn’t need. And between her father’s money and her piss-poor attitude, Parker is exactly what Cade doesn’t need.

So why is it they can’t stay apart?

NA Review My Thoughts

The Makeup Test by Vanessa M. Knight is the sixth book in the Ritter University series. The Ritter University series is a series of new adult standalone romances. The Makeup Test is the first book I have read in the series, and to be perfectly honest, I had never even heard of the series before I found this book. So I certainly had no problem following along with the story and the characters. It really did work as a standalone. Each of the books in the Ritter University series are more like novellas. They are super quick reads coming in at under 150 pages, and are great for a quick pick me up. I really enjoyed The Makeup Test.

I loved the complexity to the main character, Parker. At first glance, she is a materialistic rich girl, but once you get to know her better you see she has many more layers than simply that one. However; she is materialistic at times and she certainly is a spoiled rich girl, but she is also more. I really liked her. And I loved what her business was. She has a makeup line that she creates herself, which is crazy ambitious. I wouldn’t even know the first thing about the chemistry of making your own makeup. Parker is one smart cookie.

And then there is Cade. Cade is a new cop, or a probie who responds to the call of a drug bust. That scene totally cracked me up. I could picture the old school cop with perfect clarity and it was hilarious. The rest of The Makeup Test is a quick and cute read. I totally enjoyed this one and I read it in under 2 hours. The only thing I wish I had gotten a little more of, was Cade’s thought process when it came to his initial meeting with Parker. There is a bit of insta love going on, and I wish it was developed a little slower. I didn’t really get his initial attraction to her because their first encounter they didn’t really talk to connect in any way. But other than that, The Makeup Test is a quick read that was cute and a lot of fun. I would totally check out the previous books in the Ritter University series if I was looking for a quick pick me up type read.

About Vanessa M. Knight

Vanessa M. Knight has always enjoyed writing and once she found romance, she was addicted. She props her laptop in the suburbs of Chicago with her husband, son and menagerie of 4-pawed, claw-babies (AKA cats and dogs.) That laptop has partnered-in-crime to write contemporary romances with a dash of humor and splash of snark.

When she has a few moments to spare, you can find her singing off key (but she assures us it’s still considered singing), reading, kickboxing or killing a few brain cells as she stares at the many sitcoms and dramas available through the Internet and TV.

This does sound fun to read and sometimes it’s good to mix lengths of books. this would be fun to take along and read in between track and field events. The cover is super cute.

Well, they do say opposites attract. Right? Sounds like a story I would really be interested in.

I like the names Cade and Parker the author choose, sounds like they will have great chemistry!
