three-stars

Isa is a dragon shifter queen who has never seen her scales. She wants to, but a spell laid on her castle thousands of years ago, traps her inside for her own safety. If she even thinks about breaking the rules, she’ll die…

Liam is tired of living under the shadow of his father, Obsidian—king over all the American dragons. He constantly fights to prove himself. When dragons from Europe come with stories of an evil queen who rules a hidden dragon kingdom with an iron fist, he knows he’s found his mission. Now he just has to survive…

Isa and Liam’s worlds collide and while each is bent on killing the other, they might just need to band together to a fight a threat that would kill them all.

The Dragon Kings Chronicles will be short novella length adventures that will be released every two weeks until the end of the first set. I’ll be releasing at least 20 novellas in this series in 2021.

YA Review My Thoughts

The Dragon Kings Chronicles is a young adult paranormal romance/urban fantasy adventure serial by author Kimberly Loth. It is set in the same world as her Dragon Kings series that featured Obsidian and his gang. This series is about the next generation of royal dragons, and where the first series was set in America, The Dragon Kings Chronicles series seems like it will be primarily set in Europe. I am excited about the idea of a serial. It is not a format that I read too often, but I like the shorter stories because I just flew through the first one. The Dragon Kings Chronicles will be short novella length adventures that will be released every two weeks until the end of the first set. Kimberly has said that the first set will be at least 20 novellas long!

The Dragon Kings Chronicles did a good job setting up the world and briefly introducing us to the players, and now that I know the lay of the land, I am even more excited to read the next installments. Because they are being releases every two week, I think what I might do next time is wait for a couple (or more) serials to release, so I can read them back to back, because I was not ready for this story to end. I found myself wanting to get to know the characters better and wanting some more detail on what was going on, which I am sure we will get in due time.

The story seems like it is going to be an interesting one. In Europe there is a Dragon Queen that is tasked with magically hiding the dragons to keep them safe, but the Queen is locked away from the world and seems very disconnected with what is actually going on with her dragons. I can’t wait to learn more about the unrest that some of the dragons feel towards the queen, and learn more about her dragon guards because I feel like I am only getting one snapshot in what looks like it will be a much bigger plot. I can’t wait to discover it.

I think The Dragon Kings Chronicles will be a great series for fans old and new of her previous dragon series. You don’t need to read that series in order to understand this one. There is enough background history to get you going. The Dragon Kings Chronicles is perfect for readers that are looking for a quick, fast paced read. I found myself wanting a bit more detail while reading, which is why I think I am going to wait until a few books are released so I can read them back to back. This will be an interesting series format to read. I can’t wait for more.

About Kimberly Loth

Kimberly Loth can’t decide where she wants to settle down. She’s lived in Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, Utah, California, Oregon, and South Carolina. She finally decided to make the leap and leave the U.S. behind for a few years. Currently, she lives in Cairo, Egypt with her husband and two kids.

She is a high school math teacher by day (please don’t hold that against her) and YA author by night. She loves romantic movies, chocolate, roses, and crazy adventures. Kissed is her first novel.
