When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella's side of the story. At last, readers can experience Edward's version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun.
This unforgettable tale as told through Edward's eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire. As we learn more fascinating details about Edward's past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle of his life. How can he justify following his heart if it means leading Bella into danger?

My Thoughts

Midnight Sun is the fifth book in the young adult paranormal romance smash hit series, Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. Though this is technically the fifth book in the series, it is really an expanded version of the first book, Twilight, from Edward Cullen’s perspective. It is not just a re-write of the book, but rather we get a lot of additional character development, history and insight into our favorite broody vampire.  I am a sucker for the guys perspective in novels, so to get a full version from Edward’s point of view was so much fun.

I did not go back and re-read the initial twilight series, but I think it might be fun to do a re-read, inserting Midnight sun in as book number 2, immediately after finishing Twilight. It was a blast from the past to travel back to forks and to see Bella Swan through Edward’s eyes. Now this is still a Twilight book, which means if you had issues with the angst or the insta-love, then you might have those same issues with Midnight Sun because they are certainly present here as well, but take this book for what it is. The guys perspective of Bella and Edward’s first meeting.

Fans of angsty reads, brooding love interests and die hard twilight fannies will absolutely love Midnight Sun. This book was chunky! It was so much bigger than the original Twilight, and I have to say I enjoyed it a lot more than I did Twilight book 1. This was a ton of fun, and exactly what I wanted it to be.
