You heard her scream when he fell on that battlefield.
Stealing a prized jewel is nothing compared to a heart. Raised to be the perfect thief, Lyra was not above using her body or her siren's song to take exactly what she wanted, when she wanted it.
But when she is attacked and her song is stolen, she must find a way to win over the commander of the Flame Court while on the brink of war, even if it means sacrificing everything she'd ever learned about being a siren. She thought she could fool him, fool them all. But really she was only fooling herself.
This standalone spin-off will sweep you under the sea with star-crossed lovers, stow you away on pirate ships, and destroy you all over again.
Tides and Ruin is a standalone new adult fantasy by author Miranda Lyn. Though Tides and Ruin can be read as a standalone, it is set in the same world as Miranda’s Fae Rising series and their is significant character overlap and world events overlap. The events of Tides and Ruin take place during the time of the third book in the Fae Rising series, and although you will not be lost if you have not read that trilogy first, I think you do benefit greatly from reading this book after you read the first three books in the Fae Rising trilogy. That being said, Tides and Ruin is by far my favorite book out of the four I have read by Miranda Lyn. I liked these characters the best and I loved the romance in Tides and Ruin!
In Tides and Ruin, we meet our main character, Lyra. Lyra is a siren who is used to getting her way. But when her song is stolen, Lyra herself becomes very lost, and she is determined to win her song back. On her quest to find her song, she ventures to the Sea Queen’s court and it is there she finds Kai. Fans of the original trilogy will recognize Kai as one of the main core characters, and I was so excited to see him get his own story because he was my favorite character from the Fae Rising series.
Lyra is a great character. She is fierce, strong and doesn’t take no for an answer. She is a take charge kinda gal, and I loved that about her. It is so satisfying to watch Kai and Lyra banter back and forth, and I was rooting for them from the start. This book will take you on an emotional rollercoaster, but the journey is worth it. I think it is the best book Miranda Lyn has penned to date. I really enjoyed Tides and Ruin. You can read Tides and Ruin at any time, and it is a true standalone, but if you choose to read it prior to her Fae Rising series, be warned that there are spoilers for the third book present throughout this story. For that reason, I recommend reading it after the original Fae Rising trilogy.
