In the land of fae, you're either the hunter or the hunted.

Ara, a high fae in the Court of Marsh, was trained since birth to kill. When it comes down to it, can she sever the tendrils of her morality and do it? After being taken prisoner by the sea queen, she manages an escape riddled with questions, only to arrive home to absolute heartbreak. Discovering everything she knew to be a lie, she sets out on a dangerous journey to learn the truth of her upbringing. But when the hunters begin to come for her, she realizes she isn't the only one that will need her lethal skills.

Meanwhile, Temir, a lesser fae in the vicious Court of Wind, hates no one more than himself. Gifted with the magic of healing and therefore protected from the prejudices befallen the rest of the lesser fae, he is smothered beneath the firm hand of the northern king. But when he makes a discovery that could change the world, he must decide, produce the serum and convince the one he is falling in love with to run away with him and his beloved mentor or let fear suppress him into defeat.

One high fae. One lesser fae. One goal. Find a way to fight back.

YA Review

My Thoughts

Blood and Promise is the first book in the young adult fantasy series, called Fae Rising by author Miranda Lyn. I really enjoyed this first installment, and I am super pumped to continue on with the series. The whole series is available for free on kindle unlimited and now is the perfect time to start reading because the fourth book is a spin off set in the same world and it is releasing later this year, so now is the perfect time to start reading the first three books. I am about to dive into book two right after I finish this review. Blood and Promise started off interesting but as I kept reading, the world kept building and building and before I knew it, I couldn’t put this book down! If you are a fan of political fae based fantasy series, the fae rising series is a hidden gem you need to check out!

In Blood and Promise we meet our two main characters Ara and Temir. Ara is the high fae daughter of the leader of the hunt, and Temir is a low fae that has healing abilities and is recruited into King Artus’ employ. Blood and Promise is told in alternating points of view between our two main characters, but they don’t know each other and are on seemingly different paths. I was so interested to see if and when their paths would cross and how their stories would intersect. Blood and Promise is a great beginning of what promises to be a much bigger story. We don’t know very much starting out but pieces are fed to us as we go along. I really prefer this method of storytelling, and Miranda Lyn does a great job walking the balance of not enough information and just enough to keep you wanting to flip pages.

The second half of this story is pure magic. I was so invested in Ara’s storyline as she turned into a robin hood of vengeance of sorts. I can’t wait to learn more about her role in the bigger picture but I really like both her and Temir. I can’t wait to see where their stories are going to go next. I am so excited to keep reading this series. If you are a fan of young adult fantasy, the Fae Rising series is one you should check out right now!

Pre-Order Incentive

Book 4, Tides and Ruin, in the Fae Rising series is coming out later this year, and Miranda Lyn has an awesome Pre-Order incentive. If you preorder Tides and Ruin you can get this beautiful enamel pin.

Though Tides and Ruin is book four in the series, it is actually a standalone set in the fae rising world. Ill have the summary down below if you want to check it out.

You can preorder Tides and Ruin HERE

https://www.faerising.com/tides-and-ruin-preorder-gift

Once you pre-order the book, click on the link above and fill out the form to claim your pin! Make sure you let Miranda know that I sent you, in the “where did you hear about this” entry on the form.
You heard her scream when he fell on that battlefield.

Stealing a prized jewel is nothing compared to a heart. Raised to be the perfect thief, Lyra was not above using her body or her siren’s song to take exactly what she wanted, when she wanted it.
But when she is attacked and her song is stolen, she must find a way to win over the commander of the Flame Court while on the brink of war, even if it means sacrificing everything she’d ever learned about being a siren. She thought she could fool him, fool them all. But really she was only fooling herself.

This standalone spin-off will sweep you under the sea with star-crossed lovers, stow you away on pirate ships, and destroy you all over again.
