An Heir Comes to Rise is the first book in the young adult fantasy series of the same name by author C.C. Peñaranda. An Heir Comes to Rise features a lush fantasy world full of magic, interesting world structure and plenty of great characters. C.C. Peñaranda’s writing was wonderfully descriptive, which helped me gain quick bearings into the world of Ungardia. I think this book will be great for fan of fae romances and adventure fantasies. I do wish that there was a bit more romance, but this first book was more foundational for world building purposes, and I am hoping that in the next installment we will see more romance develop. The romance that was included, I really enjoyed.
In An Heir Comes to Rise, we meet our main character Faythe, who starts out as a delivery girl for a bakery, but quickly gets swept up in a journey filled with magic and so much adventure. I felt the exhilaration of a new adventure right alongside Faythe. Fae are my favorite magical creatures, so I was so excited to learn about them in this story. These are a dark and vicious fae, so be warned about that. I do wish I got a little more backstory on the fae and their world, but I think we might learn more about that in the second installment.
The pacing of An Heir Comes to Rise was pretty quick, especially in the second half of the book when we are fully in adventure mode. I really enjoyed this story and I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next! The romance was my favorite aspect of the story and I am personally hoping for even more romance in book 2! ( I love Nik!) I think An Heir Comes to Rise will be a great read for fans of fantasy series featuring Fae.
