When teens go missing in Hawaii, a group of demon-hunters-half human and half angel-disguised as high school students, must leave Crossroads, the place where they reside. In a race against time, they uncover the mystery connecting the missing teens, which dates back to the era of the Knights Templar.

However, when they discover one of the Templars passed down a book containing all the secrets and codes to finding a particular treasure, they soon realize this forbidden treasure needs to be found before Cyrus, the lord of the possessor demons, acquires it-a treasure which been safeguarded and hidden from him.

There is only one problem: the pages containing the clues leading to the treasure is missing. When the first page is found, Cyrus threatens to kill more descendants of the Knights Templar if it is not given to him by Friday the thirteenth. In the midst of threats and discovery, the demon-hunting angels find they are not alone when supernatural beings begin to reveal themselves.

Can they put their differences aside and work together to solve the Knights Templars' cipher?

As they astral travel to the past, they witness a lot more than they have bargained for. And some things are better left unseen.

YA Review My Thoughts

The Chosen Knights is the first book in the Angel Knights series by author Mary Ting. However, It was recommended to me to try the prequel novella, The Angel Knights, first. Each of the books can be read on their own, but I decided to read this series in order, starting with The Angel Knights. On one hand, I was glad that I did. It helped me get to know Lucia and Zachary a little better, and since I didn’t read the originating crossroads series, this book helped me put all the pieces together for the crossover characters. But on the other hand, I didn’t love the Angel Knights. I found it to be a little simplistic and a lot rushed. I didn’t have the chance to connect with any of the characters. But still, I love the idea of The Chosen Knights, which is the first full length book in the series, and I wanted to see what Mary Ting could do with the characters in a full length novel so I decided to still give The Chosen Knights a try. And I am really happy that I did. I enjoyed The Chosen Knights a whole lot more than the prequel.

I had more of an opportunity to get to know Lucia and Zachary. Lucia and Zachary Nephilim warriors, or knights. Being that they are part angel, we get to see all kinds of cool abilities. It has been ages since I have read a good Angels and Demons story, so I was really excited to mix that in with Templar lore. The Chosen Knights lived up to and exceeded my expectations after reading the prequel story. The characters were more fleshed out, the plot line was intense and really interesting. In fact, the plot was my favorite part of the story. I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait to see where it is going to go next. That is a little unusual for me, since I am normally a character driven reader, but Lucia fell short for me a few times. She is very rash in her decisions and more than once she races head first into a situation without really thinking it through. I am really hoping to see some character growth in her in the next book. Actually, that would be super satisfying. I love a good character journey throughout a series.

Bottom line: If you are looking for an action/adventure story with supernatural elements throughout and lots of fighting, The Angel Knights series is for you, especially if you enjoy stories about Angels and Demons. Feel free to read the prequel first, or not. I don’t think you will be lost if you start with The Chosen Knights, and I certainly enjoyed the Chosen Knights a lot more than the prequel. But if you have read Mary Ting’s crossroads series, you might really enjoy The Angel Knights because it sets up the character overlap and gives the reader some good background into why the characters are placed where they are, and who they are. This was a good supernatural story, and I can’t wait to read the sequel, which is already out.
