Kate ships tons of fictional couples, but IRL her OTP is her and Mick, the hot quarterback she’s crushed on since, like, forever. With only one semester left of senior year, it’s now or never if she wants to land him in time for prom.

Since she’s flirtationally challenged, she enlists Cooper Callihan, the guy who turned popular seemingly overnight but who used to be a good friend.
Cooper lives and breathes rowing, but his partner just broke his wrist. When he remembers Kate’s good with a set of oars, he strikes a deal: help him train, and he’ll make sure her crush notices her. Only he didn’t know how addicting spending time with her would be. Or how the more successful the Operation is, the more jealousy he experiences.

The mission has been set. The troops have their marching orders. But what if the target is the wrong guy all along?

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains stargazing, accidental swimming, and poker swindling. This kissing practice will melt your ereader…and give you a new couple to ship.

YA ReviewMy Thoughts

Operation Prom Date is a young adult contemporary romance by author Cindi Madsen. I have read some of Cindi’s adult romances and I really enjoyed them. They were fun and flirty so I was really excited when I saw she was coming out with a young adult romance. And even more excited when it was called the Tactics in Flirting series. Operation Prom Date is the first book in the Tactics in Flirting series. And I have to tell you…I flippin’ LOVED this book. It was so cute. I felt like my face was going to hurt after because I was smiling so much.

Operation Prom Date had so many elements in that I love. It had a plot to get a guy that involved using another guy, it had a great friends to more storyline, and it has tons of geeky fandom references! Kate and Cooper are the two main characters in this story, and Operation Prom Date is told in dual narrative between their points of views. What I appreciated most about this was the fact that this was a true friends to more story. Neither Kate nor Cooper had a crush on each other at the start of the story. It developed over time on both of their sides, which was very refreshing. And super cute to get to see their feelings grow in each of their chapters.

Cooper is very into astronomy and rowing (crew). I loved Cooper. He is such a great guy. And Kate is a numbers gal. A super math nerd (I envy the ease at which she can calculate odds and percentages!) but also a total romantic. I loved all her talk of OTP and the different shows she watches. She is always talking about who she ships and cannon couples. I just loved it. The fandom geek inside of me was totally geeking out!

It has been a long time since I have read a young adult contemporary that I loved as much as I loved Operation Prom Date. It is so freakin’ cute. You will fall in love with Cooper and Kate. I promise. This book is perfect for fans of all things fandom. If you liked All the Feels by Danika Stone, you will enjoy this one. I loved it! One of my favorites of the year for sure. I totally ship Kate and Cooper. And Cooper has ton book boyfriend material written all over him!

About Cindi Madsen

Cindi Madsen is a USA Today Bestselling author of contemporary romance and young adult novels. She sits at her computer every chance she gets, plotting revising, and falling in love with her characters. Sometimes it makes her a crazy person. Without it, she’d be even crazier. She has way too many shoes, but can always find a reason to buy a new pretty pair, especially if they’re sparkly, colorful, or super tall. She loves music, dancing, and wishes summer lasted all year long. She lives in Colorado (where summer is most definitely NOT all year long) with her husband and three children.

Danny and Kara from The Last Ship, Jake and Katie from Containment (which is the saddest OTP of mine), and Victor and Sierra from the show Dollhouse.

I remember meeting David Hasslehoff at a Grand Opening event when he was Knightrider. He is taller and gangely looking in person but he is sooo photogenic! There was not one picture where he did not look gorgeous.

This sounds like an awesome book, thanks for sharing & for the great giveaway :)!

I am a big sucker for Oliver and Felicity’s relationship. My favorite type of read also. Love when the relationship is out of no where or unexpected.

  5. Megan C

Nathan and Haley from One Tree Hill or Emma Swan and Hook from Once Upon a Time. Both couples go through so much but stay strong!

  6. patty

Paige and Walter from Scorpion . Their chemistry together is truly amazing ! I just found out recently that they are a couple in real life ! WOW !

I’ll have to give this one a try. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a cute, swoons, contemporary.
